Letter from Larry Shapiro to Toronto Chief of Police regarding a Muslim consultant's behaviour

Nov. 12, 2023

Myron Demkiw

Toronto Chief of Police

Dear Chief Demkiw,

It has been reported that your department's Muslim consultant Younus Islam on his Facebook page advised Muslim demonstrators to wear masks to foil anti-face recognition programs that might identify them and subject them to consequence like firing them from their jobs.

I am not a legal person nor have worked for the police but it seems to me that advising demonstrators to disguise their identity is aside from being anti-Canadian, Canadians take responsibility for their actions, encourages demonstrators to have less restraints on their behaviour.

If this information is correct, I urge you to discipline Mr. Islam or better yet discharge him from his job.

Am I wrong to think that Mr. Islam's advice is akin to the police advising bank robbers how to best disguise themselves during their robberies?

Sincerely yours,

Larry Shapiro,

Calgary, Alberta
