Letter to Galen Weston

Mr. Galen Weston

Executive Chair, Loblaw Companies Ltd

Dear Mr. Weston;

By now you will be aware of the international campaign to boycott Ben and Jerry’s ice cream because the current board of that company, and its parent, Unilever, has decided to refuse to sell their product to Jews who live in Judea and Samaria. This decision, reflective of how the Nazis treated Jews in the 1930s and 40s, boycotting their businesses then closing them, then tossing all Jews out of all jobs, is but the beginning of what the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement hopes to achieve. It is pure Jew hatred. Like the Nazi propaganda, the new anti-Israel propaganda spreads lies, accuses Jews of unspeakable evil, offers no evidence for any of their bigotry and pushes disinformation and discrimination in all of its so-called social justice material.

Loblaws has no reason to refuse ice cream to anyone, but because Ben and Jerry’s has decided to refuse their ice cream to Jews based on their dwelling in their ancient heartland, (but note the company has no issue with terrorists or tyrants and is not boycotting China, Iran, Venezuela, Syrian, North Korea, Libya or a host of other truly undemocratic and inhumane regimes), we ask that Loblaws immediately withdraw the sale of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream from all of your stores. Make a statement!

Stand up for Jewish civil rights, for the end of Jew Hatred, for the end of BDS against the only Jewish state, and stand for the only democratic state in the entire Middle East and North Africa, the Jewish state of Israel.

We ask that you take action as soon as possible and make it known to Canadians, to your suppliers and consumers, advertisers, investors and employees that: Loblaws is appalled by the antisemitism on display by Ben and Jerry’s and will not cooperate. This is not an act of social justice, since the chair, Anuradha Mittal of Ben and Jerry’s has made it abundantly clear that she does not think Israel even has the right to exist.

The fight against rising antisemitism is a fight to End Jew Hatred in our lifetime.

We look forward to your earliest response.

Sincerely,

Andria Spindel
