This image and excerpt below is from the Institute of Black Solidarity with Israel, an important ally in the fight against contemporary antisemitism and in building Black-Jewish relations. We thank and acknowledge IBSI for its great work.
“April 17-18 is the 2023 Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah). It is also a great time to remember Black solidarity with our Jewish brothers and sisters and the stand against hatred and extremist violence everywhere. The quote above is from Dr. Martin Luther King's 1963 Letter from Birmingham Jail where he was incarcerated for civil disobedience.”
April 17-18 | Yom HaShoah
Light a Candle to remember someone lost during the Shoah:
From israelAm, a daily news sheet in English produced by an Israeli couple
Reza Pahlavi, the eldest son of the former Shah of Iran will arrive in Israel today to attend Holocaust Memorial Day events with President Herzog and Prime Minister Netanyahu. He is expected to address the threats from Iran at the national event to be held at Yad Vashem tonight. For more, click here.
The Palestinian Authority perpetuates the Rhetoric of the Nazis, denies and distorts the Holocaust, Incites Terrorism, and Abuses Jewish History
There can be no denying that the Palestinian Authority, from President Mahmoud Abbas to its lowest functionaries, its religious advisors, its controlled media and educational system, all support lies and hatred towards Jews and Israel. There is little of value offered to Arab children that will bring about peace or any form of healthy co-existence. Western democracies, including the Canadian government and many public institutions, often reflect the lies and antisemitism of the PA, and its terrorist partner, Hamas, which governs Gaza. In an effort to find “balance,” to sound virtuous and support a supposedly marginalized and vulnerable population, our government ignores the huge contribution to worldwide antisemitism that is enabled by the PA.
(Read Palestinian Media Watch for multiple examples of PA abuse of the Holocaust and calls to harm Israel https://palwatch.org/page/33014 )
On Yom Hashoah, surely it is time to demand the Canadian government cease funding the terror-training curriculum of the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), call out the hypocrisy and Jew hatred of the PA establishment, demand justice for Jews and Israel at the UN, denounce the pro-Palestinian organizations that hold outright Jew hating events such as Al Quds Day on the streets of Toronto which urge the destruction of Israel.
If the signs of the times feel reminiscent of what took place in Germany in the late 1930s, then consider this message delivered by John Stuart Mills in 1867 at the University of St. Andrews:
“Let not any one pacify his conscience by the delusion that he can do no harm if he takes no part, and forms no opinion. Bad men need nothing more to compass their ends, than that good men should look on and do nothing. He is not a good man who, without a protest, allows wrong to be committed in his name, and with the means which he helps to supply, because he will not trouble himself to use his mind on the subject.” (from OpenCulture.com)
Did the protesters succeed? Did they shut down the event?
