Letter from Larry Shapiro, Calgary to Editor of The Walrus, a Canadian magazine, about its biased reporting on the Israel-Hamas war

Dear Editor,

Justin Ling and the foreign policy establishment in Ottawa think the Hamas and Hezbollah are lone actors resisting Israel's occupation of the Palestinians. The truth is that there is no occupation, the "Palestinians" consider the existence of Israel an occupation, and not one Canadian diplomat has had the courage to call them out on this . But more crucial is the failure of Canada's officials to acknowledge that Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis and pro-Iran militias in Iraq are Iranian proxies prosecuting Iran's war to end Israel's existence.

Iran has zero interest in the Palestinians, and from the day the Ayatollahs took over have framed its entire foreign policy on erasing Israel from the map, with nuclear weapons if necessary. Israel has had enough of rockets and acts of terrorism against its people and is in an existential struggle to defeat these forces, as it has every right and responsibility to do.

People like Ling want the war to end, which they very well understand will permit these terrorist groups to rearm and start all over again, which is nothing more than their  aligning with Iran.

Larry Shapiro, Calgary
