The Board of Directors of  Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation will honour Brian L. Crowley, Managing Director of the Macdonald Laurier Institute (MLI), on October 27th, with this year’s Advocate Award of Excellence in recognition of his leadership, moral clarity, and steadfast commitment to dispelling myths and lies “about the Jewish people while also revealing the flaws in our own foreign and public order policies that have led to antisemitism and extremism festering at  home and abroad.” The award, given annually since 2021, recognizes significant contributions by individuals whose integrity and valour enhance, protect, promote Jewish life in Canada and globally. Past recipients include Dr. Jacques Gauthier, Brooke Goldstein, Barbara Kay, Rob Roberts, and Donna Holbrook.

Crowley initiated the Promised Land Project which involves scholarly researchers and writers examining the historical promise of Canada, a land that traditionally has welcomed people of all cultures, ethno-religious identities and opinions, and asks, why has Canada failed its Jewish population? Why is antisemitism on full display and rising? To quote MLI, “through media interviews, op-eds, magazine articles, live events, webinars, podcasts, paper and more, we (MLI) amplify the voices of those who know the facts about the Jewish community, Israeli and the Middle East.” Brian Crowley and his team report on Canada’s failure to live up to this promise to its Jewish citizens.

Crowley has held many influential roles including the Clifford Clark Visiting Economist with the Canadian Department of Finance, founder and Manager of the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies, and member of the Globe and Mail Editorial Board. He founded MLI in 2010 and today it is the only Canadian think tank with an office in Washington, D.C.

Crowley is the author of six books and numerous op-eds and research papers. He holds degrees from McGill and the London School of Economics, including a doctorate in political economy.
