In response to a terrible antisemitic petition sponsored by NDP MP Heather MacPherson, CAEF initiated this petition sponsored by Conservative MP Roman Barber, that addresses human rights that must include Jews. Heather MacPherson wants to target people who have served in the IDF or other defense positions in Israel, people who support and defend the Jewish homeland. The CAEF/Barber petition points out this is discriminatory.

Petition to the Government of Canada

Whereas:

  • The Canadian Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of personal characteristics that include race, national or ethnic origin, and religion;

  • House of Commons petition e-6783 introduced January 7, 2026 calls upon the Government of Canada to "(a) initiate investigations under the Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act into Canadian citizens and residents who served in the Israel Defence Forces, and if warranted, lay charges or refer to international courts; (b) direct the Canada Border Services Agency to screen Canadian citizens/residents returning from Israel for foreign military service; (c) investigate the HESEG Foundation for violations of section 11(1) of Canada’s Foreign Enlistment Act; and (d) issue warnings that Canadians serving/volunteering with the IDF may face criminal liability under Canadian law"; and

  • The implementation of the requests set out in petition e-6783 would have the necessary effect of subjecting Jewish Canadians and Canadians of Israeli origin to discriminatory treatment contrary to the Canadian Human Rights Act.

We, the undersigned, citizens or permanent residents of Canada, call upon the Government of Canada to

  1. Reject petition e-6783 in its entirety;

  2. Declare that Canadians will not be subject to discriminatory treatment or practices by reason only of prior service in the Israel Defense Forces or other national service in Israel, and/or travel to or from Israel, and instruct the Canada Border Services Agency accordingly; and

  3. Declare that Canadian charities engaging in activities in Israel in compliance with Canadian revenue laws will not be subject to discriminatory treatment and instruct all law enforcement agencies of the Government of Canada, including the Canada Revenue Agency, accordingly.
