Letter from Richard Sherman, Florida, to The Guardian, re: misnomering of Jewish Voices for Peace

Nov. 11, 2023

Dear Letters to the Editor:

Arwa Mahdawi calls members of Jewish Voices for Peace (JVP) "brave Jews". ("Is it too much to ask people to view Palestinians as humans? Apparently so") Does she know anything about JVP or is she blinded by it being the most misnomered organization on earth? In 2015, JVP joined other antisemitic organizations to disrupt and protest a NYC Council vote on commemorating the liberation of Auschwitz. JVP has "honored" Rasmea Odeh, the convicted murderer of Jewish college students, Edward Joffe and Leon Kanner. In 2021 the Simon Weisenthal Center led by Rabbi Marvin Hier and Rabbi Abraham Cooper declared "Jewish Voices for Peace" one of the ten most antisemitic organizations on earth. On May 1, 2022 Johnathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti Defamation League, declared that Jewish Voices for Peace(JVP), Students for Justice in Palestine(SJP) and CAIR "epitomize the radical Left, the photo inverse of the extreme Right that the ADL has long tracked". Mr. Greenblatt continued: "They (JVP, SJP and CAIR) indisputably and unapologetically regularly denigrate and dehumanize Jews." The record is clear that JVP is one of the most misnomered organizations on earth, and is neither for the Jewish people nor for peace.

Brave Jews? JVP --- euphemistically calling the beheading, evisceration and disembowelment of Jews on October 7th as "Palestinian Resistance" --- is no more brave by embracing Hamas and its express raison d'être to murder every jew on earth than was Gertrude Stein by embracing Vichy whose express raison d'être was the murder of every jew in France. Richard Sherman,

Margate, Florida
