Letter from Ruth Abrams, Sylvia Charles, Sue Fox, Dahlia Rusinek, Marylyne Weinrib, Sharon Wiesenfeld to PM Carney re the price of security to the Jewish community against homegrown terrorism

Dear Prime Minister Carney,

Jewish Canadians have contributed vastly beyond their numbers to Canadian democracy in the fields of Labour and Human Rights and in Medicine, to lowering the cost of drugs, to establishing and maintaining museums, endowing Universities, supporting research and scholarship, actively serving in the Military, leading the way in charitable giving back to the community in vast amounts and fostering inter-faith dialogue and values.

What have Jews not contributed to Canada?

Answer: Zilch, to the crime rate, to local terrorism, to threatening abuse on Canadian streets, to hate crimes, to media abuse, to hate propaganda, to gun violence.

But in order to protect themselves against attacks in their native country, Jews are now forced to pay for their own security. To remedy that situation it will need more than a $10 million grant to restore Canada to what it was, and to prevent a further downward trajectory in Canadian life.

Please inform us as to what immediate and effective actions are now being taken.
