Dear Attorney General Downey,
When will hate crime laws be simplified and applied so that the police can do their work in protecting communities at risk? You hold specific legal power concerning hate speech charges.
At present, would-be criminals, kidnappers and protesters proclaiming “ globalize the Intifada”, “gas the Jews”, etc., are allowed to hide behind masks and take over streets and malls.. This is a scenario redolent of Berlin in the l930’s where Nazi intimidation was allowed to fester and eventually infiltrate government.
Toronto has already become a dangerous city for Jews. Jewish schools and institutions need to hire security to protect against vile demonstrators swarming and taking over the sidewalks with impunity, who feel empowered now to kidnap Jewish girls with God knows what scenarios in mind.
It borders on the unbelievable that Osman Azizov, one of a trio having an alleged nexus to Isis, who is accused of attempted kidnapping of Jewish girls and women in company with the others, and armed with handgun, rifle and knife, for that purpose, is out on bail. It is only through the intervention of a passerby in the May 31 attempt that the kidnapping was not successful. Another attempt followed on June 24. Obviously, all three belong in jail pending trial.
Attorney General Downey, you have the power to immediately change this situation. Please direct your attention to this ominous threat to our Canadian Way of Life.
Respectfully,
Ruth Abrams, TORONTO
