No Hijab Day is February 1, 2026

Initiated by Yasmin Mohammad, author, activist, Co-Chair of the CLARITy Coalition and ex-Muslim states, “no Hijab Day is a direct response to the Islamist propaganda of World Hijab Day. Hihjab is a tool of religious misogyny used to control women-and we are saying no.”

Sun Editorial: Where's the support for Iran's brave protesters? Editorial Board, Toronto Sun Published January 9, 2026. So, where's the support on the strets in this country for freedom-loving Iranians? Why are those keffiyeh-wearing protesters who love to shut down our cities not now demonstrating on behalf of those seeking to free Iran from its terror-loving overlords? Our news outlets, so quick to report on deaths in Gaza, have dragged their heels in telling us what's happening.

Read Melissa Lantsman in her Substack, January 14, 2026 speaking of Canada’s lack of response to the Iranian protesters who demand freedom.

Read excerpt: “This moment isn’t just about the courage of Iranians and Persians from all walks of life – it’s also about the sheer cruelty with which the regime has responded. Internet access has been cut to isolate protestors and hide atrocities. Mass arrests have swept up thousands. Sham trials have delivered sentences at lightning speed.

But here in Canada, and around the world, it’s crickets from politicians, from the media, and from the people who said they cared but are now invisible. “

Legal Update

1. Saskatoon Police Upgrade Charges Against Brandon Taylor MOORE

Saskatoon real estate broker Brandon Taylor MOORE was charged on January 12 in Saskatchewan Provincial Court with wilfully promoting hatred against Jews and wilfully promoting antisemitism by condoning, denying or downplaying the Holocaust, in relation to antisemitic social media posts that were the subject of complaints by B’nai Brith Canada and CAEF.  CAEF has also filed a complaint against MOORE with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission (Case 25-26-327) for publishing statements that expose or tend to expose Jews to hatred.  MOORE was previously charged with making a statement in a public place promoting hatred against Jews in a manner likely to result in a breach of the peace, as well as a weapons offence.

For more backstory on MOORE, please see the links below.

Please also see an article by Rochelle Direnfeld of the Alliance of Canadians Combatting Antisemitism (ALCCA), of which CAEF is a member organization, providing additional background and details.

2. Ottawa Anti-Israel Protester Deana SHERIF’s Jury Trial Commenced in Superior Court January 12, 2026

The jury trial of frequent anti-Israel protester Deana SHERIF began in Ottawa Superior Court on January 12, 2026.  SHERIF stands charged with various assault and criminal harassment offences; details remain under a court-ordered publication ban.  SHERIF became notorious for her role in a protest outside the Bayt Avraham Yosef of Toronto synagogue in Vaughan Ontario in March 2024.

Last week, SHERIF participated in another anti-Israel protest in apparent breach of her pre-trial release conditions.  CAEF reported the matter to the Ottawa Police Service

3. Iain ASPENLIEDER Sentenced to 158 Days Imprisonment (Time Served) for Defacement of the National Holocaust Memorial

Former City of Ottawa solicitor Iain ASPENLIEDER was sentenced in Ottawa Superior Court to 5 months of pre-trial custody for mischief to a war memorial, in relation to his defacement of the National Holocaust Memorial in 2025.  CAEF expresses its gratitude to Sam Goldstein and Russell Molot for their roles in developing and delivering our Community Impact Statement, several passages of which were cited by Justice London-Weinstein.  CAEF is also very grateful to ALCCA for its role in coordinating the combined Community Impact Statement.  Along with many other community advocacy organizations, CAEF was disappointed by the leniency of the sentence and Justice London-Weinstein’s finding of a reasonable doubt as to whether ASPENLIEDER was motivated by hatred of Jews when defacing the monument.   Even if there were such a reasonable doubt as to whether the offence was motivated by hate, the relevant aggravating factor in sentencing is whether the offence was motivated by hate, bias or prejudice.  The judge omitted to properly consider whether the offence may have been motivated by bias or prejudice.  The Crown is unlikely to file an appeal against the sentence.

4. Edmonton Police Lay Two Sets of Willful Promotion of Hatred Charges against Armjat JARADT and Esteban PAVEZ

Edmonton Police have laid charges of uttering threats against members of the Jewish community against Armjat JARADAT and Esteban PAVEZ in what appear to be unrelated incidents.  JARADAT was released on strict conditions while PAVEZ remains in custody until his next court appearance on January 29.

5. Winnipeg Police charge Oliver Didtger EDGERHOF with 14 Counts of Mischief Following Nazi Symbol Vandalism Spree

A 35-year old Winnipeg resident was charged with multiple counts of mischief and mischief to religious property following an episode in which the Shaarei Zedek synagogue and the Abu Bakr Al-Siddique Mosque were spray painted with Nazi symbols and the word “HATE”.  EDGERHOF had previously appeared in court on assault an weapons charges, in which his charges were diverted on account of a diagnosis of schizo-affective disorder.

6. Ontario Solicitor General Michael Kerzner Pens Critical Letter to Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw and Toronto Police Services Board Chair Shelley Carroll; Demkiw Pushes Back

Ontario Solicitor General and York Centre MPP Michael Kerzner and Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw traded letters critical of each other’s response to the perennial hate mobs plaguing Toronto streets. Demkiw characterized the Boxing Day flash mob at the Eaton Centre as “completely unacceptable” and demanded “strong action … to prevent further escalation and hold offenders to account”.   Demkiw blamed Crown attorneys for failing to adequately prosecute the charges issued by Toronto Police constables, which he claims make the arrests futile.

Much as we at CAEF have been critical of the Toronto Police Service leadership’s handling of the hate mobs over the past two years, we have to admit that Chief Demkiw has a point.

Muslim Brotherhood in America

Clifford May writes in The Washington Times on December 30, 2025, that political leaders in Australia, as has been the case in the US and Western Europe, claim that Muslims who commit terrorism are not followers of the true Islam, but are political or radical Islamists. However, the doctrine of Islam is clearly what these bloodlusting devotees follow, the literal Quran. It is the less than observant, secular Muslims or non adherents to the faith, who are beyond reproach. He argues it is time for politicians who recognize the source of Islamic terrorism.

Read the excerpt:

“Members of Al Qaeda, the Islamic State, the regime that rules Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthis, and Boko Haram are all terrorists, but we may presume that they also are true believers whose interpretations of the Koran and the Hadiths (collections of the sayings of the prophet Muhammad) are not insupportable.

Many members of these bellicose groups self-identify as “Salafi-Jihadis,” meaning they see their version of Islam as akin to that of the Prophet Muhammad’s 7th century companions and followers whose armies marched out of Arabia, swords raised, conquering foreign peoples and settling in foreign lands.

Vast Islamic empires and caliphates soon dominated much of the Middle East and North Africa, as well as significant swaths of Europe and Asia.

It was not until the 1920s, in the aftermath of World War I, that the Ottoman Empire collapsed and the last Ottoman caliph, Abdülmecid II, boarded the Orient Express at a station near Istanbul, heading for exile among the unbelievers of Europe.

Hassan al-Banna, an Egyptian school teacher, saw this as a historic tragedy. In 1928, he founded the Muslim Brotherhood. Its mission was – and still is – to reestablish Islamic supremacy and domination everywhere and anywhere.

Since then, Brotherhood theologians have provided inspiration to pretty much every group committed to waging jihad against Jews, Christians, Hindus, and others.”

Jihadists also kill Muslims who do not wish to follow their scripture or want co-existence with people of other faiths. Understand why the Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliates, on campus, in society, through NGOs, mosques and religious schools, must be banned.

Watch Joe Adam George, researcher and expert on Islamic extremism in Canada, on Middle East Forum program, speaking of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist terrorist threats in Canada.

Watch Brian Crowley, Manager of the Macdonald Laurier Institute speaking about the effectiveness of the Muslim Brotherhood in Canada.

BREAKING: Argentine President Javier Milei has declared the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, joining Israel, the United States, Paraguay, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.
BREAKING The United Arab Emirates has announced it will stop funding Emirati students who wish to study in the United Kingdom, citing concerns that they could be radicalized by Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamist movements on British university campuses. Read that again. A Muslim state is warning that the UK has become a breeding ground for extremist Islam. If that doesn't terrify British leaders, nothing will.

Wake Up Canada

The image below says it all---an arson at the largest, oldest synagogue in Jackson, Mississippi, and destruction of the library and two Torah scrolls, and yet the authorities have yet to confirm this is a hate crime.

The good news (if there is any), is that the main sanctuary was not damaged, and the Torahs there were later removed for safekeeping. A Torah rescued from the Holocaust and stored in a glass case was not damaged.

Mississippi's largest synagogue severely damaged in suspected arson attack

From the Jewish Insider we learn “Beth Israel Congregation is the only synagogue in Jackson, the state’s capital and most populous city. The historic building also houses the offices of the Institute of Southern Jewish Life, which supports Jewish life in the region.

Located in a major hub of the Civil Rights Movement, Beth Israel was bombed in 1967 by the Ku Klux Klan over the rabbi’s support for racial justice — including providing chaplain services to activists incarcerated for challenging segregated bussing in the state. “

CBC Bias Confirmed

Previously documented by B’nai Brith Canada and consistently reported by Honest Reporting Canada, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, presents bias against Israel in much of its programming—from news to culture, opinion/interview stories, to entertainment. The evidence is presented with rigorous analysis and politely states that CBC’s programming is much more frequently pro-Palestinian. Another observation might be that it is highly anti-Israel. CAEF has submitted complaints in the past but always received a response defending CBC as “balanced.”

China is Unleashing Antisemitism!

As if we don’t already have enough reasons to be suspicious of Chinese designs and interventions in the West, threats against Taiwan, huge investments in Africa and elsewhere that leave countries with huge debts, its closure of the Kaifeng synagogue, and much reported political interference, now consider its politically motivated agenda to fuel antisemitism.
