CAEF Honoured Brian Crowley, Others Acknowledge

Karen Restoule

📣 I’m proud to work with Brian Crowley, founder of the Macdonald-Laurier Institute. Last week, the Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation presented Brian with its 2026 Advocate Award of Excellence. It’s a well-deserved recognition of his leadership in confronting antisemitism and his support for Israel and the Jewish community through MLI’s Promised Land Project.

One of the things I admire most about Brian is his willingness to put the full weight of the institution he built behind issues he believes in. In a time and place where most people are afraid of taking a public stand for what is right and just, because they fear public backlash, Brian faces the wind. He speaks with conviction and makes room for others to speak up alongside him.

In his acceptance remarks - see link below - Brian spoke candidly about how October 7 made him reflect on the times he had left it to others to speak up. That candour and humility is a big part of what I admire about him. He took that reflection seriously. Through the Promised Land Project, he has brought people across faiths and backgrounds together to confront antisemitism and stand with Jews everywhere.

I find that kind of leadership rare and inspiring, and I'm grateful to have a front row seat to it. Warmest congratulations, Brian👏 I’m so glad to see you and your leadership honoured in this way.

Many provincial legislatures hold formal Diwali receptions; and across Brampton, Surrey, Markham and Mississauga thousands of homes glow with diyas through the November cold.

The Moral Case for Zionism

By Casey Babb

Reported by Andria Spindel

The Moral Case for Zionism by Casey Babb

Yes, Zionism is the world’s oldest liberation movement, yes it is a concept that is part of the identity of most Jews, recognizing the land of Israel as the ancient and forever homeland of the Jewish people. But it that and more, as described by Casey Babb in his new book, The Moral Case for Zionism.

In dialogue with Rob Roberts, Editor-in-Chief of the National Post, held in a private home on Thursday evening, Babb’s spoke of the vison that Zionism has for the Jewish people, in Israel and the diaspora, a vision of hope, of light, of forever being a light that improves the world. Zionism is foundational to Judaism and has kept the Jews together for millennia, across cultures and countries.

Zionism has been redefined over it is not what antizionists claim. The antizionists attribute every evil to the State of Israel, keeping their hate fueled, they just add lie upon lie, exaggeration upon exaggeration with the goal of destroying Israel. Antizionism, as Babb’s stated, is a hate movement an done that is embraced by a small segment of the Jewish population. Babb pointed out various theories about antizionist Jews, and even ventured to say, in response to audience question, that maybe they should not be allowed into Israel.

In response to many questions, Babb’s was sincere in stating that he didn’t have all the answers, that Jews need more security and want to live without outsized security, that he cherishes all freedoms and understands the need to curtail some freedoms, that Jews are passive and positive while also angry and agitated, needing to see more action to counter antizionism. In sum, he wasn’t hopeful that any changes would come until the government itself was changed.

Fighting the Hate: A Handbook for Jews Under Siege

Fighting the Hate: A Handbook for Jews Under Siege by Melanie Phillips

October 24, 2026

Last Wednesday, I attended a talk at a large synagogue in Toronto. The audience was asked what their reaction would be if a Palestinian told them Israel was committing genocide. Silence followed and few feeble responses –“I wouldn’t like it”; “I’d find someone to talk to him”. The group was shockingly uninformed.

Engulfed in a tidal wave of false news, lies, no news, moral inversion, Jews are not prepared to counter the propaganda against Israel. Leading figures in government, finance, the arts, falsely accuse Israel of genocide, of deliberately murdering children, of human organ trafficking and every horrible crime imaginable.

Terrorist sympathizers have hijacked our streets, spouting Antisemitic, anti-Israel rhetoric that is fueling massive violence against Jews worldwide.

David Vigneault, former Director of CSIS warned on BBC that “people who don’t know what they’re talking about have defamed Israel to fuel radical Islam, Antisemitism and even acts of terror.”

In her latest book, Fighting the Hate: A Handbook for Jews Under Siege, British journalist and commentator Melanie Phillips, provides the help needed to face the “seigers” with specific responses to the many different kinds of attack they deliver, in an easy to read, quick response format.

This short book maps out where Jews stand today and provides a guide to what Jews can all do to “mount a resistance against this onslaught.” Her advice is simple: know the facts, remain calm, understand the person in front of you, seek common ground where possible and avoid talk that threatens personal safety.

Emotion alone is not an effective answer to propaganda, she says. Phillips urges readers to educate themselves and stick to facts as rebuttals, including allegations of genocide, apartheid, colonialism and occupation, all of which and more, she addresses in the book.

Fighting the Hate is a strategic primer and not a neutral account of the Israeli Palestinian conflict. It gives readers, Jewish and non Jewish, confidence to confront the Jew haters with composure and dignity when they challenge misinformation and Antisemitic tropes.

Timely, forceful and highly practical, this book is vitally important for all of us who are confronting Antisemitism and the delegitimizing and demonization of Israel.
