CAEF Letter to Brig. Gen. Theriault, Governor General Simon & Order of Canada Advisory Council to express sincerest concerns about an individual upon whom they bestowed an honour that is not deserved

April 6, 2026

BGen Marc Theriault

Deputy Secretary

Honours and Deputy Herald Chancellor

The Canadian Chancellery

1 Sussex Drive

Ottawa ON K1A 0A1

Dear Brig. General Theriault ;

The Order of Canada is intended as “the cornerstone of the Canadian Honour

System,” according to your own website. Honourees are those who have

“enriched the lives of others and made a difference in this country.”

Surely, the Order of Canada also acknowledges and celebrates the humanity,

tolerance, inclusion, compassion, and sense of justice that its recipients must

exemplify as representing the best of Canadian values.

Does enriching Canadian lives and making a difference include harassing Jews,

spreading antisemitic tropes and making false claims against Israel, the

national Jewish homeland?

While all Canadians are entitled to their own political views, including

perspectives on geopolitical issues, foreign conflicts and public polices of other

countries, it is highly unlikely that the Order of Canada is intended to recognize

bigotry. Mohamad Fakih is guilty of the very thing he accuses Jews of doing:

polarizing and dividing Canadians.

Here are a few other posts by Mohamad Fakih that are very concerning to the Jewish

community, raising false accusations of Israel’s desire to control Southern Lebanon. He

suggests Israel has an “expansionist policy” for a Greater Israel. This disinformation ignores

the fact--Israel is responding to the terrorist entity, Hezbollah, that operates out of the

South of Lebanon. Daily barrages aimed at civilians are a well documented fact. Lebanon

refuses to acknowledge Israel’s right to exist and has failed to curtail terrorism or hold

terrorists accountable. The impact of Fakih’s false claims is to feed antisemitism in

Canada, undermining unity and justice for all, and stoking flames of Jew hatred.

The Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation sincerely requests that you share this

letter with the Governor General and the Order of Canada Advisory Council, urging them to

withdraw the Order of Canada from Mohamad Fakih for he is unworthy of such award.

Bestowing it on him disgraces Canada, undermines the value of the Order of Canada, and

insults an important segment of the Canadian population, at a time when Jew hatred is on

the rise, why are you rewarding it?

Sincerely,

Andria Spindel, Executive Director

Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation
