Letter from Richard Sherman, Florida, to Globe and Mail in response to article by Mira Sucharov stating her ignorance in claiming that antizionism is not antisemitism, October 19, 2026.

Dear Editor,

Carleton Professor Mira Sucharov demonstrates her ignorance of Judaism by claiming " Anti- Zionism and Anti- Semitism Should Not Be Conflated").

In fact Zionism and Judaism have been conflated for 3500 years.

Judaism is based solely on the 3500 year old Jewish Bible aka the Old Testament. That Jewish Bible has only ONE foundational narrative, the Jewish People's Return to Zion(Zionism), what has been Israel since 1948 when it was decolonized for the second time, after being decolonized for the first time in 167 BCE and after being established as the sovereign state of Israel in 1273 BCE.

This conflation is also recognized by 1. The fact that Jerusalem is mentioned 659 times in the Jewish Bible; and 2. For 2000 years at the conclusion of the Passover Seder, the Jewish people rise and loudly and proudly pray the ultimate Zionist prayer: Next Year in Jerusalem!.

Finally no one understood the 3500 year conflation of Judaism and Zionism better than Theodor Herzel who wrote:

" The idea that I developed in this pamphlet is an ANCIENT one. It is the RESTORATION of the Jewish State." ( Emphasis supplied)..." The Jewish State" 1896.

Anyone who denies the 3500 year old conflation of Judaism and Zionism suffers from Zionophobia.
