CAEF letter to Raymond Fung, Principal at King City Secondary School regarding the misleading and inflammatory use of a map of "Palestine" as a curriculum resource by one of his teachers

The map was produced by Native Land Digital, and CAEF has previously complained to the NLD about its inaccuracy and inappropriateness. The map makes no mention of Israel, thus denying its existence and Jewish indigeniety.

Dear Mr. Fung:

Map of “Palestine” Used as Class Curriculum Resource

It has come to our attention that a parent posted on the Everything Jewish Toronto group on Facebook today that a teacher in your school used, as a curriculum resource, an interactive computerized map produced by an organization called “Native Land Digital” that referred to the entire territory of the State of Israel as “Palestine”. The map made no mention of the State of Israel.

This material is not consistent with Canada’s foreign policy or the Ontario curriculum, introduces highly inflammatory politics into the classroom environment without justification, and is contrary to the Ministry of Education memorandum dated July 25, 2024 prohibiting political bias in Ontario public school classrooms. It also erases the identity of students with Israeli background, and is therefore discriminatory contrary to the Ontario Human Rights Code.

According to the Facebook posing, the map was used to assist students in locating their place of origin. When the student typed in Ashkelon, Israel, the interactive map indicated that Ashkelon was located “Palestine”. Ashkelon, is on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, entirely within the 1949 armistice lines.

CAEF urges you to promptly investigate the matter and cause this biased, inflammatory and

discriminatory material to be removed as a curriculum resource.

Yours very truly,

Michael Teper
