Re: Daniela BONAMICO - Restricted and Unrestricted Firearms License - Request for Discretionary Prohibition Order
Dear Staff Sergeant MacDuff:
Please accept this letter as a formal request that a peace officer of the Toronto Police Service file an application to the Ontario Court of Justice under Section 111 of the Criminal Code for a discretionary Prohibition Order that Daniela BONAMICO not possess any restricted or unrestricted firearms for reasons of community safety.
Section 111 of the Criminal Code says:
111 (1) A peace officer, firearms officer or chief firearms officer may apply to a provincial court judge for an order prohibiting a person from possessing any firearm, cross-bow, prohibited weapon, restricted weapon, prohibited device, ammunition, prohibited ammunition or explosive substance, or all such things, where the peace officer, firearms officer or chief firearms officer believes on reasonable grounds that it is not desirable in the interests of the safety of the person against whom the order is sought or of any other person that the person against whom the order is sought should possess any such thing.
Daniela BONAMICO has recently bragged on her social media account "X" (formerly Twitter) that she has renewed her license to possess restricted and unrestricted firearms. Copies of the relevant postings are attached to this letter.
On account of numerous social media postings threatening violence against supporters of Israel, whom she describes as "Zionazis", there is, in the opinion of the Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation, a significant public safety concern about her continuing to hold a license to possess firearms.
There have been several recent cases of individuals espousing similar rhetoric committing serious crimes against members of the Jewish community: R v. Gobin, R. v. Elkhodary, R. v. Akbari. Last week, in Ottawa, Joseph ROOKE was charged with aggravated assault against a Jewish woman at a Loblaws grocery store. Mr. Rooke had made social media posts similar in tone and content to those of Ms. BONAMICO.
Specifically, Daniela BONAMICO has posted that she desires that every supporter of the Israeli Defense Forces, anywhere in the world, "should immediately have their neck put in the guillotine". (May 15, 2025). BONAMICO also posted that "the only good Zionist is one that has been turned into worm food." (August 13, 2025).
BONAMICO also reposted material condoning the 1913 lynching of Leo Frank, an incident that spurred the revival of the KuKlux Klan in the American South in 1915.
While we acknowledge that BONAMICO has rights to express opinions relating to the Israel/Palestinian conflict, she does not have the right to (a) express a desire that Canadians who support Israel (i.e., 90%+ of Jewish Canadians, including myself) be converted into "worm food", and (b) condone a public lynching, and (c) maintain the privilege of holding a firearms license.
Our organization considers a firearm in the hands of someone with this track record of promoting violence to be a public safety threat. There are ample grounds for an application for a Section 111 Application for a Prohibition Order in this case.
Best regards,

President
