Dear Amazon UK Management,
We were horrified and offended to see that Amazon was selling a hoodie with a Yellow Star marked “Jude”, the symbol of the Jewish genocide at the hands of the Nazis in WWII. The Nazis forced Jews to wear a Yellow Star throughout occupied Europe. It was used to identify Jews, first for exclusion and then for murder.
While we have observed that you pulled this item from your online site, it is important that you understand just how offensive, unacceptable and irresponsible of your team to have ever included such an item. As a responsible company you must advise the producers of such items that their product contributes to today’s rising antisemitism. Across the globe, we are experiencing the most antisemitic hate crimes since the war, and this is both painful and terrifying, and an insult to the memory of the six million Jews that perished in the Holocaust.
Amazon has a more than just a corporate social responsibility to choose products with sensitivity. As an international company with huge reach and incredible influence, you ought to be doing more to combat antisemitism, not just avoid selling symbols of Jew hatred.
Thank you for taking steps to remove the product and please confirm you have put a policy in place to ensure this never happens again.
Regards,
Andria Spindel,
Executive Director
Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation
