Canadian Museum of Human Rights Faces Another Report Challenging it’s MisPortrayal of History- The Nakba, Defeat and Humiliation by Aggressive Arab Countries
The Aristotle Foundation released a study that addresses one of the most contested topics in modern Middle Eastern history: the Nakba. Below is the summary by the CEO.
The study, The Nakba: The Consequence of a War, challenges the Canadian Museum for Human Rights' exhibit on the Nakba, which, the report notes, presents a one-sided, inaccurate view of the events following the 1947 UN partition vote.
The authors, University of Calgary professor and historian David Bercuson and Logan Jaspers, examine the 13-month conflict that began in 1947. It also reviews the concurrent destruction of ancient Jewish communities across North Africa and the Middle East, highlighting broader historical realities of war and population transfer.
Key Findings:
The UN created an orderly plan for the partition of Palestine. The Jewish people accepted it, but the Palestinians refused to even consider the idea.
After 13 months of violence, 700,000 Arabs had fled or had been expelled from Mandatory Palestine and Israel, while 800,000 Jews were forced to flee North Africa and the Middle East and settle in Israel between 1948 and the early 1970s.
Prior to 1947 there were major bouts of violence toward Jews in 1920 (the Nebi Musa Riots), 1921 (Jaffa Riots), 1929 (Hebron massacre plus attacks in Safed and Jerusalem), and 1936–1939 and 1945–1946 (Arab Revolts). In the period after 1930, as the Jews became more militarily active, Jews responded to attacks from Arab villages that were perceived as origins of attacks against Jews. Nevertheless, the record of violence after 1920 was overwhelmingly a record of Arab attacks against Jews.
During the civil war, both sides carried out unsavoury acts, but Israelis always claimed a military reason for the removal of populations, either to bolster communication lines or stop regular attacks being launched from Arab population centres.
Jewish authorities actively encouraged Arab populations to remain in the new State of Israel but did not try to keep Arabs from fleeing if they so chose.
"The attempt to paint Israeli actions and the existence of the Jewish state as a deliberate violation of human rights is inconsistent with the facts," said Dr. Bercuson, senior fellow with the Aristotle Foundation for Public Policy. "Wars always cause refugees, and the human costs of war must be laid at the feet of the aggressors who start them."
"The Canadian Museum for Human Rights ignored primary historical research and academic consensus in favor of a simplistic narrative," notes Bercuson. "Thoughtful people should recognize the nuance of history: while 700,000 Arabs left during a war initiated by Palestinian leadership, 800,000 Jews were simultaneously driven out of the Arab world, and the Arab population remaining in Israel has thrived for generations."
"Canada's national institutions should ground their exhibits in empirical history and fact rather than biased narratives," notes Bercuson.

Legal Update
1. Hate Crime Charges filed against Daniela Maria BONAMICO and Shahram NAYEB-YAZDI.
Immediately after last week's CAEF Bulletin went to press, the Toronto Police Service laid additional charges arising out of the March 15, 2026 display of several dehumanizing placards at the corner of Bathurst Street. & Sheppard Ave. West. The placards depicted a religious Jew as a reptilian creature with a distended belly and spindly arms and legs, depicted Jews with grossly elongated noses, and depicted Jews and Israelis as rats.
Previously, six other individuals Muhammad Anas SIAL, Hosaan HEMDAN, Omar TURCAN, Syed HUSSAINI, Hasan AYDIN, and Yasa SAIKH were charged in relation to the incident
The day the placards were displayed, CAEF reported the matter to the Toronto Police Service, file 26-548055.
The charges faced by all eight defendants (the "Hateful Eight") include willful promotion of hatred against members of identifiable group, specifically the "Jewish and/or Israeli community". This is one the first times that hate crime charges have included the Israeli community in addition to the Jewish community as a protected group, and represents a significant step forward.
The Deputy Attorney General of Ontario has consented to the wilful promotion of hatred charges against each of the Hateful Eight.
CAEF has obtained a copy of the Release Order of Daniela BONAMICO, which states that one of the conditions of her release is that she is prohibited from being within 500m of the intersection of Bathurst St. and Sheppard Ave. W. This order applies at all times, day or night. Therefore, if you see BONAMICO within that zone, please take discreet photos or videos if you can, and report immediately to the Toronto Police Service at 416-808-2222 or call 9-1-1 if you feel unsafe or threatened. Do not confront or engage with the individual.

2. Chris PERRIERA, 23, Charged as Third Suspect in BAYT/Shaarei Shomayim Synagogue Shootings.
On March 7, 2026, a group of three individuals are alleged to have shot at the Beth Avraham Yoseph Toronto synagogue, and then proceeded by car down Bathurst St. to take further shots at the Shaarei Shomayim synagogue. Two of the individuals who have been arrested are under 18, so identification of them is prohibited by law.

3. Jason Paul RINDALL Pleads Guilty to Advocating Genocide and Willful Promotion of Hatred in Winnipeg Provincial Court
Jason Paul RINDALL of Winnipeg MB was charged on February 13, 2026 with uttering a threat against the life of Prime Minister Mark Carney and against the Jewish and Muslim communities. He was subsequently charged on March 30, 2026 with willful promotion of hatred and advocating genocide against members of both groups.
These charges arise from postings made by RINDALL on the social media platform X.

Paradox of Brazil
This country of 218,000,000 has a mixed history on racism and antisemitism. Our wonderful young guide tells us it's the last country to abolish slavery, but privately admits that he knows Arab countries still have Black slaves. Why whisper this?
Racism and antisemitism are foreboten and punishable with jail time. This is a very mixed race country and culture. Jews came fleeing the inquisition, pre and post WWII, and today are only 0.05% of the population. Our guide states he's not seen or heard of any antisemitism. Given that Israelis, unlike Canadians, can travel here without the complicated visa procedures one expects that's true. But look at the government's position on Israel, specially since the Hamas inflicted war.
Brazilians are favourable to Jews and Israel if the lack of hostile actions, posters and other signs are an indication, it is the government that sends mixed messages. Sadly, leadership, as we noted in Argentina, and is obvious in Canada, can determine societal attitudes and behaviour.
