CAEF Celebrates Donna Holbrook &International Christian Embassy Jerusalem, Canada
Christians and Jews honoured Donna Holbrook for her dedication and many achievements over 25 years leading ICEJ, Canada; with an event celebrating allyship. On November 27th approximately 200 people, from both communities, plus Hindus, Muslims and others paid tribute, and heard tributes, about this remarkable woman whose personal and professional life has been dedicated to standing with Israel, and the Jewish community.
The program featured an introductory message from Rev. Majed, El-Shafie, founder of One Free World International, an Egyptian Christian who fled to Israel after being persecuted in Egypt. His message spoke of the importance of Jewish-Christian relations and set the context for the entire evening.
Emcee Barbara Kay, journalist and former recipient of the CAEF Advocate award of Excellence, expressed this theme throughout the evening as she gave poignant stories of the threats against both communities and introduced speakers.
Dr. Jacques Gauthier, legal expert on Jewish rights to the land of Israel, especially Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, presented the award, highlighting his 30year friendship and fellowship with Donna. He was accompanied by Rob Roberts, Editor-in-Chief, also a former Award recipient, and Barbara, in presenting the award. In Donna’s response and through her wonderful power point presentation, we learned of her personal encounter with Hashem, her journey into a deeper faith and love of Israel, and the over 50 visits she has made to Israel. Her contributions, moral, financial, physical have enabled many Israelis to find safety in bomb shelters, elderly people to receive much needed home assistance, Holocaust Survivors to have compassionate care, and children and adults to find therapy in art, music and animal husbandry. And much more.
Among the many wonderful tributes paid to Donna, two stood out; her daughter Meredith Holbrook expressed so much pride and love for her mother that the entire room “kvelled,” and President Isaac Herzog’s powerful message spoke to the imperative of recognizing our mutually beneficial relationship through Zionism, love of Torah, truth, and respect.

Legal Update
Ontario Court of Justice Publishes Sentencing Reasons in R. v. Elkhodary - This was an assault trial about an individual who attacked a volunteer affixing posters of the hostages on Yonge St. near North York Blvd. The accused was issued a 5-month conditional sentence including house arrest for 6 weeks. Iain Aspenlieder Faces December 1 Sentencing Hearing in Ottawa: Ian Aspenlieder, a former solicitor with the City of Ottawa who pleaded guilty to mischief to the National Holocaust Memorial in Ottawa, will face a sentencing hearing on Monday December 1 in Ottawa Superior Court. CAEF, along with numerous other Jewish community advocacy organizations, filed a Community Impact Statement which will be read out in court at the hearing. Professional Engineers Ontario Hearing -- Dr. Bahira Abdulslam: The Discipline Committee of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario will hold a hearing into the conduct of Dr Bahira Abdulmag Abdulsalam on February 4 and 5, 2026. CAEF had filed a complaint into the conduct of Dr. Abdulsalam over social media posts she made that condoned the October 7, 2023 terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians.
Ministry of Education Releases Freedom of Information Disclosures regarding the TDSB Grassy Narrows Field Trip: In September 2024, a Toronto District School Board ("TDSB") field trip to downtown Toronto to witness a rally against mercury pollution of the Indigenous reserves at Grassy Narrows, Ontario morphed into an anti-Israel demonstration, featuring slogans such as "From Turtle Island to Palestine, Occupation is a Crime". The field trip was investigated by former Ontario Deputy Minister of Education Patrick Case, who published a report that called the reporting of the incident to be exaggerated and sensationalized. Final report on the review of the Toronto District School Board’s excursions policy and procedure | ontario.ca CAEF filed a Freedom of Information Request for the records of Patrick Case's investigation, and the disclosures were released to us last week. We are currently reviewing over 1,000 pages of disclosures, and we alreadyfound that his report does not match the input he received from many parents and students.

Take the “Tucker Test”
Adam Milstein philanthropist, writer, founder of the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation, wrote this article, first published in the Jerusalem Post on November 19, 2025. He notes the rise of right wing antisemitism fed by Jew haters like Tucker Carlson, who has no limit to conspiracy theories and hate tropes about Jews, thus spear heading increased hostility and danger for the Jewish community.
Milstein writes, “Although the left and the right are ideologically opposed, at the extremes they meet at the same point, conspiracy, paranoia, and Jew- hatred. At both extremes, moral conviction gives way to moral decay and facts are replaced by theories.”
Israel is Losing the Digital War
In an article in JNS on September 30, 2025, Tamar Schwarzbard, outlines the need for much greater attention to digital communication-- alertness, expertise, and utilization--in the PR war to fight antiZionism and the many forms of Jew hatred.
Her key points are repeated here:
1. Stop Explaining, Start Leading
Hasbara, literally “explaining,” has been Israel’s default approach for decades. It assumes that if we just explain ourselves more clearly, the world will understand. But hasbara has become defensive, apologetic and counterproductive.
Our adversaries aren’t explaining. They’re storytelling, often with lies, but in ways that feel simple, emotional and convincing. When figures like former Fox News cable-TV host Tucker Carlson push conspiracies about Israel, no amount of “explaining” can undo the damage.
Israel must retire the term hasbara and everything that comes with it. We need to stop trying to justify our existence to people who will never accept it and start telling our story like every other nation: proactively and unapologetically.
2. Adapt to the Platforms People Actually Use
The world is moving much faster than Israel’s communications strategy. Conspiracy theories now spread in minutes across the platforms where younger generations live and form their views. A claim can start on X, go viral on TikTok or YouTube, and become “truth” on Reddit or Wikipedia before Israel has even drafted a response.
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, I was fortunate to work with some of the most talented people in Israel. Our Digital Diplomacy Bureau was innovative, creative and willing to take risks. That spirit helped put Israel on the map digitally and earned us global recognition.
But Israel mostly still relies on outdated methods: press releases, formal videos, carefully worded talking points. Meanwhile, our adversaries are meeting audiences where they are: in gaming streams, podcasts, Discord chat rooms and other social-first spaces that Israel barely touches. Outlets like AJ+ have mastered this: they use progressive language, persuasive visuals and cultural cues that appeal to young audiences, all while reframing the Palestinian cause to fit seamlessly into narratives of social justice and oppression. Israel has nothing comparable.
If Israel wants to reach the next generation, then it must adapt to the platforms young people actually use. That means investing in gaming channels, podcasts and short-form video, and learning to speak the cultural language of those audiences. We cannot afford to keep fighting today’s information war with yesterday’s tools.

Was CRA Free of Anti-Israel Bias In Its October and November 2025 Decisions To Revoke The Tax Status of Five Jewish Charities? It appears not. Our Jewish Leadership Must Demand and Get the truth from CRA.
The Canadian Jewish News reported on November 21st, 2025 that CRA, since mid October 2025 had investigated and revoked the tax status designation of five Canadian Jewish charities:
Herut Canada is the latest Jewish charity to lose its tax status This report states that CRA’s investigation and consequent revocation of Herut’s tax status was due to inadequate record keeping required by tax regulations. It is reported that CRA’s investigation of Herut followed the repeated urgings of Pro-Palestinian-anti-Israel Just Peace Advocates Just Peace Advocates – for Justice, Freedom and Equality:
“Auditors insisted on completing the process, however—and he says they told him there had been numerous complaints about the organization made to CRA. Online posts by a group called Just Peace Advocates had promoted a letter-writing campaign to the tax regulator to strip Herut Canada of its charitable status.”
The report goes on to identify the other Jewish CRA targets cited in that originating statement that has led to some discussion set out below:
“With the revocation of Herut Canada’s foundation on Nov. 15, CRA has now revoked three organizations since mid-October 2025, including Herut Canada Charitable Foundation; Canadian Foundation for Masorti Judaism, revoked Oct. 25; and Mazel Charity Fund, revoked Oct. 18. In 2024, the tax regulator revoked the charitable status of two other Jewish charities, the Jewish National Fund of Canada (JNF-Canada) and Ne’eman Foundation.
“We encourage the CRA to continue investigating charities that violate international and domestic law, as well as Canadian public policy (whether from Global Affairs [Canada] or the CRA itself),” Just Peace Advocates wrote. “The CRA must end the Canada to Israel charity pipeline.”
The PA Teaches Kids to Kill Jews
Impact-see reports that “The Palestinian Authority wrote the textbooks that indoctrinated the 3,000 Hamas-lead Gazans who committed the vile massacres of October 7. But still today, virulent antisemitism, the glorification of jihad and martyrdom and demonization of Jews and Israelis remain deeply embedded, beginning in First Grade. The curriculum is a blueprint for future violence and terror.”
The schools are run by UNRWA. Canada funds the schools. Canada, Germany and.. are complicit in terrorism against Israel.
Ontario MPP Cooper Recognized Volunteers
On November 23rd, Michelle Cooper, MPP for Eglinton-Lawrence, presented certificates of Appreciation for Volunteer service to a number of Jewish leaders in Toronto, along with many Italian, Philippine, and other volunteers. It was a celebratory event which is acknowledged with appreciation to MPP Cooper. We thank all CAEF volunteers and the many activists for Zionism--Jewish and ally volunteers.
