Dear PM Carney
By now I am sure you have seen the disturbing images of Evyatar David from his captivity way below Gaza — Images showing this emaciated young man, the same age as my youngest daughter, literally digging his own grave.
This is an image all too stark for Jews, indeed anyone with a moral compass. I had hoped that the post Holocaust promise of Never Again would mean that I as a Jew would not see such images in my lifetime.
And yet here we are. You Mr Prime Minister, by supporting a Palestinian state at this time while hostages are being tortured, while rockets as we speak threaten Israeli lives, while Hamas and the Palestinian Authority hold on to their vows to kill more Jews, are rewarding terrorism and thereby ensuring more Jewish graves will have to be dug.
Am I being too stark? Today is Tisha B’Av. A day of national fasting as we as the Jewish people pause to mourn our suffering from generation to generation. Canada is the home my grandparents ran to seeking refuge from centuries of oppression and prejudice. Canada is the country my uncles and father-in-law served in the fight against a genocidal regime in Europe. You Prime Minister have in your hands the power to continue Canada’s legacy of fighting against tyranny. Don’t let Canadians down!
Sincerely,
Anita Bromberg,
CAEF
Co-Chair
