Canada needs to follow through on its promise to help Palestinians, Deborah Cowen, Naomi Klein, Kyo Maclear and Madeleine Thien

Special to The Globe and Mail, Published July 9, 2025, Globe & Mail

Dear Editor,

Canada does need to follow though on its promise to help Palestinians but not only in the manner recommended by Cowen, Klein, Maclear and Thien. First and foremost, Canada needs to assist the Palestinians to abandon their egregious child abuse which is the indoctrination of their children to yearn for death while killing Jews. A society that chooses death over life can never be a functional society. Another way Canada can assist the Palestinians is to assist them to accept the reality of a Jewish state. This has already started with the head sheiks of Hebron proposing to make peace with Israel, acknowledging that Israel is a Jewish state, something the current Palestinian government has refused to do. As long as the Palestinians claim all of Israel is theirs, there will never be peace. Canada can also be very useful in assisting the Palestinian people to create a democratic state without the corruption that currently frustrates the Palestinian people, that in the case of Gaza drove Gazans to select Hamas to govern them.
