His Excellency Emmanuel Macron
President of France
Dear President Macron,
Your description of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas as a "prince of peace" is the most cynical utterance from France since one of your predecessors said the Maginot Line would repel a German invasion. Abbas' embrace of Hamas by applauding its invasion of Israel, declaring that the Hamas dead were great heroes, and by paying monthly pensions to the families of these heroes suggests that he does not want peace at all. The PA's consistent denial of the legitimacy io the Jewish state also places the idea that he wants peace in the dustbin of discredited evasions.
While Abbas may not be the "prince of peace", he is surely the prince of Holocaust denial which as a student at the famed Patrice Lumumba U in Moscow, his Masters' dissertation was about how only a few hundred thousand Jews died in the Holocaust, not the 6 million accepted by historians, as well as his paranoid claim that the Jews collaborated with Hitler to kill them to gain sympathy for a Jewish state. President Macron, because of France's role in shipping its own Jewish citizens off to Auschwitz, it has the crucial responsibility to keep the memory of the Holocaust alive. Glorifying a Holocaust denier to pander to France's Islamic population suggests that France has learned nothing from its pacifist history, ironically only flexing its muscles to confront the Jewish state. Do you understand how disgustingly consistent that is with your country's history of Jewish dehumanization?
Respectfully yours,
Lawrence Shapiro
