Letter: To the German Consulate, Toronto

Hello Tanja,

On behalf of the Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation, I am asking questions, which I hope you’ll pursue internally at the German Consulate.

Below is a paragraph from an important organization, The Gatestone Institute, sent across the globe in its respected journalistic/academic newsletter. It spells out clearly that Germany, despite adopting the IHRA definition of antisemitism, and consciously speaking out against antisemitism, acts antisemitcally frequently at the UN, displaying a clear bias against Israel, an act that is one of the principles that defines antisemitism.

Germany contributed more than any other country in the world in creating a need for modern Israel. Zionism is more than supporting a refuge for persecuted Jews, but in1948, it is likely the most obvious reason the world finally supported the creation of Israel. There is zero justification for Germany or any democratic country to support any anti-Israel resolutions, and its particularly despicable to see this in 2019. Canada too has disappointed recently and been called out. We know our country is genuflecting to Arab and other Muslim countries to get a seat at the security council and we strongly disapprove. What is motivating Germany??

I hope you will advise that the Consul General in Canada will strive to end this discrimination and convey this strongly to the German government.

Chanukah Celebrates hope, the rededication of the Temple, the Jewish claims to Jerusalem millennia ago, and the persistent fight against antiZionism and antisemitism.

Wishing you a joyful Christmas and a peaceful 2020.
