Canada’s National Forum on Antisemitism

Photo from the National Forum

The Liberal Government finally called the Forum after many long months of community advocacy. While government representatives spoke of the need for cross government cooperation in the fight against antisemitism, the gathering was a disappointment from the outset given that only Liberal members of Parliament were invited. Called hastily near the end of the term of the Liberal Government’s mandate, the commitment to action and the promise for increased funding rang hollow. Attending the National Forum On Combatting Antisemitism held in Ottawa on March 6 was CAEF President, Anita Bromberg and Vice President, Michael Teper.

The presentations by government leaders including that of the hosting Minister, MP Rachel Bendayan, while reflecting very personal experiences were clearly prepared well in advance of the Forum. There was in fact no part of the day long program designed for meaningful input from invited community members. At the conclusion of the day, a request to ask questions was flatly refused in fact. In the end, it met our limited expectations and felt at times like being window dressing for an upcoming election.

PM Trudeau’s unscheduled appearance in which he declared himself a Zionist was respectfully received at the Forum but actions speak louder than words — for on the same day the Government announced funding for Anti-Palestinian Racism (APR) documentaries. The definition of APR as set out iin the Handbook on Islamophobia prepared by the Government Envoy cites a definition that would make all Zionists, including our PM, an Anti-Palestinian Racist!

That said there were many positive outcomes behind the scenes. Our opportunity to network with police and government representatives in informal discussions during the day by itself made the trip worth while. Specifically, we shared insights one-on-one with Deborah Lyons, who is Canada’s Special Envoy on Holocaust Remembrance and Antisemitism, on the work we are doing in the areas of freedom of information, community impact statements, and professional regulation. Furthermore, the list of action items announced at the Forum does reflect community calls for change that can be and must be built upon in the coming days.

CAEF’s action items going into conference are listed below under Advocacy and Action.

Reform Rabbi and Movement Leader: There is NO Two State Solution

Esteemed Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch explains in ArutzSheva National News, why he has now broken faith with any hope for a two state solution in his lifetime: “Palestinianism is infused with fantasies of conquest and mythologies of victimhood, fueling an endless cycle of violent depravity, in part encouraged and even funded by perhaps well-meaning but naive Western politicians and NGOs and glamorized by armchair revolutionaries whose fervor increases the further they are from Gaza."

Modern Maccabees

Watch Gal Gadot and David Schwimmer at ADL Conference on Antisemitism—standing tall and proud as Jews and receiving awards for their courage and activism.

Watch Robert Lantos, filmmaker, speaking about antisemitism in Canada, comparing it to what happened in Hungary pre WWII and how his family survived. He made the film, Sunshine 25 hyears ago, and here we are seeing the same antisemitism rise the same way. Listen to Moses Znaimer, founder of Zoomer Television. Watch others who recognise the signs, call out the hatred. Stop this Now.

What is Palestine Studies?

Read about the cancellation of two positions for CUNY, by NY Governor. The article published in the Guardian by Marina Dunbar, shows how ludicrous the posting was: “Hunter College wrote that the institution is seeking ‘a historically grounded scholar who takes a critical lens to issues pertaining to Palestine including but not limited to: settler colonialism, genocide, human rights, apartheid, migration, climate and infrastructure devastation, health, race, gender, and sexuality’”.

Watch Pinchas Taylor introducing a presentation at the Oxford Union by Mudar Zahran, a Jordanian politician in exile who tells the truth about Palestinians.

The UN Human Rights Council Embedded with  AntiZionism

Watch UNHRC’s sickening bias against Israel. Anne Bayefsky, lawyer, scholar, and Director of the Touro College Institute on Human  Rights and the Holocaust,  is shut down when describing the murder of Bibas children, but hate against Israel is clearly allowed.

Humanitarian NGOs want Palestinians to Suffer in Gaza

Read excerpt from Israsel365 News: “A poll conducted by the Palestinian Center for Policy and Survey Research (PCPSR), a Palestinian research institute, found that one in four Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank wanted to emigrate. In Gaza, 44% of adults under the age of 30 said that they wanted to leave. This is not a new phenomenon. In 2021, 33% of Gazans and 20% of Palestinians in the West Bank wanted to emigrate, and in 2023, 31% of Gazans and 21% of Palestinians in the West Bank said the same.” So, why are UNRWA, and every other supposedly humanitarian agency denying Gazans the right to leave, condemning Israel and the US for suggesting they leave, even temporarily?

Simple, it suits the neighboring Arab states, the UN organizations and humanitarian entities to keep the Gazans as pawns in their ongoing blame Israel game, and encourage suffering. In no  other war, would people expect innocents to remain in danger, but in a war not initiated by Israel but by the  barbarians of Hamas, the alliance of evil actors prefer to leave the innocents to suffer along with the terrorists who deserve to suffer.

Watch Syrian activist, Rawan Osman, speaking for UN Watch at the UNHRC: Israel is Not the Problem

Great News!

The US House Foreign Affairs Committee, led by Rep. Brian Mast, has made a historic decision to refer to the Jewish heartland as "Judea and Samaria."

Report from Tazpit Press Service:

UN to Recognize Hostage Families as Victims of Hamas's Psychological Abuse

  • UN Special Rapporteur on Torture will present a report this evening in Geneva recognizing hostage families as victims of Hamas psychological terror.

  • The report could pave the way for families of hostages to file legal claims against Hamas in international tribunals.

  • Also, the report highlights the severe harm to hostages and "the lasting impact on their families, communities, and even entire nations.”

  • The report urges the ICC to prosecute hostage-taking and torture and calls for a UN fund, partly financed by sanctioned asset confiscations, to support hostages.

Academy Awards, another Venue for AntiZionism

Creative Community for Peace (CCFP) published a statement after the March Academy presentation awarded a first prize for best documentary to an anti-Israel film made by an Arab Palestinian and an Israeli Jew, titled, No Other Land.

“Unfortunately, if Hollywood wants to understand the true security issues Israel faces, perhaps they should watch the Palestinian documentary filmed on October 7th, where Hamas and other Palestinian militants broadcast to the world hundreds of hours in which they documented themselves murdering entire families, kidnapping Holocaust survivors and infants, and committing unimaginable horrors, including rape.”

Advocacy and Action

Using research information gathered by a team that included Social Workers from the Hineni project of CAEF, a Canadian Social work therapist has been exposed by Physicians Against Antisemitism, for his antisemitic posts. On Instagram, Rahim Thawer, who was presented with an award from U of T, has been exposed for his rants against Zionists. Thawer provides psychotherapy, works as a clinical supervisor at a Toronto hospital and has taught at several colleges and universities. He was recipient of a Distinguished Leader Award in 2024 by the Ontario Association of Social Workers. Maybe this should be revisited. See Instagram posting about Thawer.
