The ZOA Honoured President Trump—You Ask Why?
For many Jews, especially progressives, Democrats in the US and NDP/Green Party/Liberals in Canada, it is unfathomable that a major Jewish organization would pay tribute to a man whose words and behaviour are often seen as boorish, outlandish, outrageous, and even totally obnoxious, if not worse. This does not even begin to describe what some feel was impeachable behaviour, dealing in fake news and non science-oriented decision-making. These are also people who are in denial about leftist antisemitism, Black antisemitism, Islamist antisemitism.
CAEF is non-partisan. We expose ALL antisemites without favoritism, and we think our readers and all Jews actually need to know why the much respected Zionist Organization of America, chose to honour Donald Trump at its recent gala. ZOA also leveled criticism at him for meeting with two antisemites, Kanye West and Nick Fuentes. Below is ZOA’s published statement and it is a piece of history not to be forgotten so we are republishing it in whole.
“He (Trump) earned it ( the Award) and deserves it because of his fabulous, unparalleled beneficial policies toward the Jewish State of Israel and toward the Jewish people.
As we stated at the ZOA Gala, where we gave this rare award to President Trump, Donald Trump also deserved a Nobel Peace Prize for his numerous great accomplishments, such as the Abraham Accords, which made the Middle East more peaceful, saved the lives of Jews and others; and combatted antisemitism in the U.S. and elsewhere.
We are deeply grateful that President Trump:
negotiated the groundbreaking Abraham Accords; moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem;
issued the “Executive Order on Combating Antisemitism” to strengthen and rigorously enforce the Civil Rights Act, Title VI, to protect Jewish students from harassment and discrimination on American college campuses;
deported the last known Nazi war criminal from the U.S. after previous administrations failed to do so;
stopped sending U.S. tax dollars to the Palestinian Authority (PA) because the PA pays hundreds of millions of dollars of “pay to slay” payments and pensions to Arab terrorists to murder Jews;
signed the Taylor Force Act;
ended U.S. funding to the corrupt United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) because UNRWA hides rockets for Hamas and teaches Arab children to hate and aspire to murder Jews; • ended the catastrophic Iran deal (which Iran violated from the outset) and imposed maximum sanctions on Iran which reduced Iran’s funding of terror proxies Hezbollah and Hamas, which likely saved lives;
eliminated Qasem Soleimani, which saved more lives;
recognized that Jewish communities in the Jewish heartland of Judea/Samaria are legal;
recognized Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan; recognized the right of Jews to pray at our holiest site – the Temple Mount;
moved Israel into Centcom (Central Command) to strengthen Israel’s and our Arab allies’ security collaboration;
left the so-called United Nations Human Rights Council because the UNHRC continued to focus on falsely attacking Israel;
sanctioned International Criminal Court officials for their unlawful investigation of Israel;
reversed discriminatory labeling regulations that had facilitated anti-Jewish boycotts;
vigorously spoke out against antisemitism in his State of the Union message and on numerous other occasions;
allowed Americans born in Jerusalem to list “Israel” on their passports; • appointed numerous pro-Israel officials;
tried to stop the prior (Obama) administration from passing horrendous anti-Israel UN Security Council resolutions (while Trump was president-elect);
closed the unlawful PLO mission in Washington and insulting, wasteful consulate to the PA in Jerusalem;
was the first sitting U.S. president to pray at the Western Wall; and
brokered an additional groundbreaking memorandum of understanding with Bahrain to eradicate antisemitism and promote respect and co-existence between the Arab and Jewish people.”
“It’s quite clear that there’s not a hint of antisemitism in President Trump’s actions or beliefs. He clearly loves Israel and the Jewish people. He made a point at the ZOA Gala this month to say that even though he hates wearing tuxedos, he decided to wear a tuxedo especially in Israel’s honor.
ZOA can continue to appreciate President Trump’s many extraordinary pro-Israel deeds at the same time that we insist that Trump needs to condemn antisemite Kanye West and Jew-hating, Holocaust-denying white supremacist Nick Fuentes.”
Q: Why is ZOA insisting that President Trump needs to condemn Kanye West and Nick Fuentes?
A: The rapid increase of antisemitism from multiple quarters in the United States is extremely alarming and dangerous. Nick Fuentes is an influential white supremacist, who mocks and denies the Holocaust, accuses Jews of serving the devil, and says “I piss on your Talmud.” Farrakhan-loving Kanye (Ye) West, who has 31 million followers, has a tremendous influence, and endangers Jews when he accused Jews in the entertainment industry of “milking us until we die”; tweeted about going “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” etc.; and then said “I love you” to leading antisemite Louis Farrakhan.
Laughable and Creative Lies from Laith Marouf
One man brought shame to the Canadian Department of Heritage, for having funded his NGO that traded on antisemitic tropes and lies while delivering so-called anti-racist training. You might wonder where did this story end as for several weeks many in the mainstream media shared the facts that Laith Marouf posted and spoke antisemitic hate?
Did Marouf receive discipline, did Jews receive justice, did the government recover its hundreds of thousands of dollars from this rabid antisemite? It seems he was deplatformed, so obviously, whom does he blame?
MEMRI, (the Middle East Media Research Institute) shared this video clip on November 22, 2022 showing Marouf in an interview in Lebanon, spewing one lie after another. It is truly fantastical, laughable and yet unsettling. He is likely still influencing thousands of gullible listeners, his antisemitic followers, even corporate leaders who are uninformed and unwilling to check him out, so have a laugh, then write your Member of Parliament and remind him or her to get the money back!
Correction to Timeline stated in CAEF Bulletin, Nov. 28, 2022
In recognizing Jewish Refugee Day, November 30th, CAEF’s editor erred in the timeline that led to the establishment of Israel. Here in an excerpt from Palestinian Media Watch are dates to remember.
From PMW
“Today, Nov. 29, 2022, is the 75th anniversary of the 1947 UN Partition Plan – UN General Assembly resolution 181 - which divided the geographical area to the west of the Jordan River, into two states: A Jewish state and an Arab state. In its essence, the Partition Plan was a fundamental breach of the 1922 League of Nations Mandate for Palestine, which placed that entire area under the governance of Great Britain, for the sole purpose of creating a Jewish state on all of the land.
The 1922 Mandate for Palestine had already taken the entire geographical area then referred to as “Palestine” and divided it in two: The eastern part of Palestine - the Arab country - was placed under the rule of the Hashemite family and changed its name to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The western part of Palestine was to become the Jewish state.
Despite the breach of the Mandate, the Jewish leadership of the day – represented by David Ben Gurion - accepted the plan. The Arab leadership and countries, on the other hand, rejected the plan and immediately started planning how to eradicate the Jewish state before it even came into existence.
Recognize that Antisemitism isn’t a problem only on the Alt Right
If we don’t own up to the many facets and sources of antisemitism, we can’t eradicate it. We must not ignore its coming from all sides of the political spectrum and from marginalized communities too. Driving much of it and bringing alliances of alt left and alt right is the immense propaganda of the Palestinian Arab governments, the greatest liars, funders and beneficiaries of Jew hatred.
How Many Israelis Must Die to Get Western Attention?
This is a terrible question but one that many Jews are asking as the latest round of terrorism rips through Israeli society. The western media hardly notices or reports these atrocities and spins them into blaming Israel much of the time. Melanie Phillips, a very respected, former British journalist who made Aliyah and left her formerly prestigious place in the “mainstream” leftist press, notes that it is “humbug” and hypocrisy that drives the western media.
More Jew Hatred from the New York Times
There is probably no point in publishing stories of antisemitic reporting and opinion at the New York Times, a newspaper known not to publish what is “fit to print” but to “print to fit” its bias.
Stephen Flatow, reports another of its biases in this JNS article of November 22, 2022
End Jew Hatred Canada shares report with TheJ.ca
Doris Straub Epstein, journalist, is a volunteer with End Jew Hatred Canada and regularly writes the End Jew Hatred Report, a single issue-focused newssheet sent monthly to all MPs and provincial and territorial members of parliaments, and all Senators. This month, content was republished by TheJ.ca. If you would like to read previous issues, click here.
Canadian Military in Area C Is Cause for Questions
David Bedein, Director of the Bedein Center for Near East Policy Research, a partner with CAEF, noted unusual behaviour by uniformed Canadian military in Israel, for which questions need be asked. First brought to the attention of CAEF by International Director of Regavim, Naomi Linder Kahn, CAEF attempted to get answers as to the purpose for Canadians in uniform to be meeting with Palestinian Arabs in areas of Judea that are under Israeli control, in Arab squatter settlements, ie amidst illegal structures in Area C. No response was offered by the Canadian government. On December 1st, TheJ.ca published an investigative article by Bedein, speculating on Canada’s activities and prompting more questions.
Advocacy and Action
From the Windsor Star, we have an excerpt, quoting CAEF board member, Michael Teper.
“Windsor ON mayor @drewdilkens refuses to tell the public why he hangs out with notorious antisemite and accused criminal Firas Al Najim @Islamic_HR and poses at a terrorist propaganda shrine; maybe he can explain it to the City of Windsor Integrity Commissioner” wrote Twitter user R. Michael Teper, who made several posts about the photos. ‘Complaint filed.’ ”
See photo that generated concern and then ask the Mayor how he did not know that the scarf around his the neck of Al Najim has portraits of the number one enemy of the Jewish people and the terror of Iranian women and of freedom itself, Ayotollah Khomeini.
CAEF writes Leader of the Conservative Party, Pierre Poilivre, to speak up about Canadian military in Area C, visiting illegal Arab structures. Read here.
CAEF received a response from TVDSB Chair of the Board regarding recent guidelines for Student Dress. Response is posted below the original letter here.
CAEF wrote to Canadian Nursing Association pointing out their anti-racist trainer, Desmond Cole, has been called out for antisemitic remarks delivered at an educational for Toronto teachers. Read response received below the original letter here.
Know the Facts
We are often asked to prepare fact sheets to help fellow Jews respond to questions, challenges, doubters and antagonists when it comes to defending Israel. There are many wonderful resources. Check our list of recommended books here and send your own summary of books you recommend. Just a day after the UN voted to commemorate the “Nabka”, a supposed tragedy inflicted on Arabs in the Mandate for Palestine, by the Jews during Israel's War of Independence. We must learn the truth. The majority members at the UN won’t recognize the truth, but we must and must repeat it often.
Knowing a few specific details of Jewish/Israel history is key to being Jewishly knowledgeable and especially for being a Zionist. It is the latter that is so threatened these days; leading some Jewish kids to refuse to use the word “Zionist” for it has been misused and abused by antisemites.
Richard Sherman, in a letter to the New York Times on December 2, 2022, does more than tackle an antisemitic depiction of the history of Israel. Read his brilliant retelling of the mis-characterized “nabka” by Muslims who experienced it at that time. Muslim press and leaders described their own making of a “disaster” that had nothing to do with the Jews in 1948-49 when Arabs attacked fledgling Israel. There were no Arab victims of a terror inflicted by Jews!!
(This excerpt is in response to a review by a Beatrice Loayza of a film called “Farha”.)
Dear Letter to the editor: (Ed: bold added)
A basic knowledge of contemporaneous Muslim journalism makes perfectly clear that the"Nakba" was self inflicted--notwithstanding Ms. Loayza's claim of "basic knowledge" of what Palestinians refer to as the "Nakba".
Even a cursory glance at contemporaneous Arab and Muslim newspapers and other Muslim media makes clear that it was Arab leaders in 1947/1948 who commanded the local Arab population in Mandatory Palestine to “flee” their homes in anticipation of the genocide of the Jews — and an Arab populace who obeyed that command.
On April 3, 1949 the Near East Arabic Broadcasting Station reported: “It must not be forgotten that the Arab Higher Committee encouraged the refugees’ flight from their homes in Jaffa, Haifa and Jerusalem”.
On October 12, 1963 the Egyptian daily “Akbar el Yom” reported that : “The 15th May, 1948 arrived…On that day the Mufti of Jerusalem ( the Grand Mufti Amin al-Husseini) appealed to the Arabs of Palestine to leave the country, because the Arab armies were about to enter and fight in their stead”.
On April 9, 1953 the Jordanian daily “Al Urdan” reported: “For the flight and fall of the other villages it is our leaders who are responsible because of their dissemination of rumours exaggerating Jewish crimes and describing them as atrocities in order to inflame the Arabs..By spreading rumours of Jewish atrocities, killings of women and children etc., they instilled fear and terror in the hearts of the Arabs in Palestine, until they fled leaving their homes and properties to the enemy”.
Even the contemporaneous reporting of “The Economist” makes clear that the alleged “Nakba’ was self inflicted. On October 3, 1948 “The Economist” reported: “Of the 62,000 Arabs who formerly lived in Haifa not more than 5,000 or 6,000 remained. Various factors influenced their decision to seek safety in flight. There is but little doubt that the most potent of the factors were the announcements made over the air by the Higher Arab Executive, urging the Arabs to quit…It was clearly intimated that those Arabs who remained in Haifa and accepted Jewish protection would be regarded as renegades”.
