Dear Letter to the Editor:
Thomas Friedman is promoting the "pariah" status of Israel by loudly promoting the blatant lie that the P.A. has recognized Israel; it has not recognized Israel. (" Israel's Gaza Campaign is Making It A Pariah State") For the P.A. to have recognized Israel, it would have had to revoke the annihilation of every jew in Israel clauses which are foundational to its enabling document, the 1964 PLO Charter.
As per Article 33 of the PLO Charter revocation can only happen in writing at a meeting by a 2/3 vote in favor of revocation. Such a meeting has never occured. There is no provision for oral revocation. Not by Yassir Arafat. Not by anyone else.
Arafat's verbal non recognition " recognition" was pure "taqiyya" which all Muslims understood was a lie to encourage Islam's march to a world wide caliphate. Mr. Friedman as an "as a jew" enthusiastically promotes this obvious taqiyya and thereby participates in the "pariah" status he appears to condemn. Until the P.A. in writing by a 2/3 vote revokes the annihilation of the Jews of Israel clauses from the PLO Charter, it has not recognized Israel -- notwithstanding Mr. Friedman's endless calumnies to the contrary.
The reality is that by virtue of its enabling document, every member and supporter of the P.A. today remains committed to the murder of every Jew in Israel.
Incongruously a position that Mr. Friedman calls " recognition".
Richard Sherman, Florida
