Miracle Aboard FlyDubai Flight FZ1073

Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu released this statement:

"My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery. Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster. He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals. I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery. He is a true hero."

The President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, has recommended passengers Yaniv Hayoun, Asaf Rajuan, Tsvika Manes and Dr. Shota Musav, for the President's Medal for Civilian Bravery, the State of Israel's highest non-military honor.

The internet has exploded with amusing memes since the rescue on Flydubai.

Legal Update

1. Arthur Colin ROBERTS sentenced to 6 months Jail for Hate-Motivated Vandalism of Temple Emanu-El in Victoria BC

On September 28, British Columbia Provincial Court Judge Micah Rankin sentenced Arthur Colin ROBERTS to 6 months imprisonment for hate-motivated graffiti to the Temple Emanu-El in Victoria, BC.

According to the judgment, on August 2, 2025, at approximately 11:00 AM, Solomon Siegel of Victoria BC contacted the Victoria Police Department to report graffiti written on the front pillar of Congregation Emanu-El at 1461 Blanshard Street in Victoria. The synagogue is located in downtown Victoria, and was founded in 1859. A National Historic Site, it is the oldest continuously operating synagogue on the west coast of North America, and Canada's oldest synagogue in continuous use.

The Crown tendered a photograph of the graffiti, the same as shown in this poster, at left.

Roberts was also sentenced to two months imprisonment for uttering a threat to kill police officers, in a matter that was subsequent and unrelated to the synagogue vandalism.

In his reasons, the judge noted that the court received Community Impact Statements from congregational Rabbi Eli Herbst and from congregational President Ilana Stanger-Ross. In considering the aggravating factors in sentencing, the judge stated that:

"These statements speak to the harmful effect that the incident has had on members of the Emanu-El. The statements describe how members of the Congregation no longer feel safe in Victoria. What emerges from these statements is that the impact of this offence has been profoundly negative, particularly when viewed in the broader context of increasing antisemitic incidents across Canada. The community impact statements describe the significant consequences of this act and the fear, anxiety, and sense of vulnerability it generated within the congregation. Members of the community expressed concerns not only for their personal safety, but also for their ability to participate freely in religious and communal life."

The judge also concluded that the offence was hate-motivated, even considering the "high bar" for the definition of "hate" identified by the Supreme Court of Canada in Keegstra and related cases. The judge said that "In my view, based on the admissible evidence before the Court, I am satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that the admitted facts support a finding that Mr. Roberts’ offence is a hate crime within the meaning of s 718.2(a)(i) of the Code."

The judge arrived at this conclusion for four reasons:

a) “The language [of the graffiti] on the synagogue itself is unquestionably hateful. The words effectively pronounce a sort of sinister antisemitic syllogism: all Jews are evil, because Jews support Genocide, and Genocide is evil. The words describe Jewish people as a whole as “evil”, as “monsters”, and as murderers of children.”

b) "The words were scrawled in relatively small writing on a pillar at the entrance of the synagogue. The intended audience for this message does not appear to have been passing pedestrians, but people entering the synagogue. This was not a message to the public; it was a message to the Jewish congregation entering their house of worship."

c) The act of writing the graffiti was not spontaneous but deliberate. "The CCTV footage revealed that he spent time writing the message, stopped when he thought he was being observed, returned to writing the message, and then paused to gaze with approval on his work."

d) The defendant "intended to engage in conduct that he knew would expose Jewish people to hatred and vilification". The judge found that it is irrelevant to the issue of intent whether the defendant in his own mind hates Jewish people and wishes them harm. Even if, hypothetically, the defendant's claim that his ultimate purpose was to draw public attention to events in Gaza were to be believed, "the defendant nevertheless intentionally wrote words that were hateful toward Jewish people and deliberately placed those words on a synagogue where they would be encountered by members of the Jewish community. In my view, the inescapable inference is that he intended actions that he knew or foresaw would expose and stimulate hatred against Jewish people."

In arriving at the six month custodial sentence, the judge stated that "a significant jail sentence will typically be imposed for this kind of offence. There are some outlier [cases] that support non-custodial sentences. Factors that have increased sentences include whether the offender has a criminal record or has been a member of a hateful group. All of these cases suggest that the primary sentencing considerations for this offence are denunciation and deterrence. Mitigating factors include guilty pleas, expressions of remorse, and evidence of rehabilitation."

As a mitigating factor in sentencing, Roberts pleaded guilty to the charge at an early stage in the court proceedings, and at a September 18, 2026 court appearance, expressed remorse for his actions.

2. Brandon Taylor MOORE Sentenced to 18 Months Conditional, including 6 Months Home Detention, for Public Incitement of Hatred; 2 Charges Withdrawn in Plea Deal

On September 28, 2026, Brandon Taylor MOORE of Saskatoon SK was sentenced in Ontario Provincial Court to a conditional sentence of 18 months, having pleaded guilty to Public Incitement of Hatred in a deal that had the Crown withdraw charges of Wilful Promotion of Hatred and Wilful Promotion of Antisemitism by Condoning, Denying or Downplaying the Holocaust. The Attorney General of Saskatchewan had previously granted statutory consent for the laying of the latter two charges.

4. Antisemitic flyers have been found at the synagogue Sons of Jacob and the surrounding neighborhood, the very same synagogue attacked on Yom Kippur.

Belleville police say they are actively investigating and are encouraging anyone with information or video evidence to contact aboulay@bellevilleps.ca.

“We recognize that incidents such as this can cause concern within our community,” the police service says in a statement. “Hate has no place in Belleville, and the Belleville Police Service remains in contact with community leaders and is taking proactive steps to support the safety and well-being of residents. Increased patrols will continue throughout Belleville, including around places of worship and other community gathering spaces.”

Police say that anyone who observes suspicious activity is encouraged to report it to police and that anyone who witnesses or experiences a hate-motivated incident should call 911 in an emergency or contact the Belleville Police Service non-emergency line at 613-966-0882.

Taking Action Against Discrimination in our Educational System

A group of concerned community advocates have spearheaded an effort to bring forward complaints of ongoing antisemitism within our public school systems. This week 12 human rights complaints by teachers were announced. CAEF has provided ongoing support and was pleased to be in attendance at this week’s press conference in Toronto for the announcement. Here is what we had to say:

CAEF PRESS STATEMENT

Human Rights Complaints Expose Systemic Failure to Address Antisemitism in Ontario Schools

TORONTO, ON — Oct 1, 2026 — CAEF fully supports the announcement by Kathryn Marshall of Marshall Law regarding the filing of 12 human rights complaints on behalf of teachers who say they have experienced antisemitism, harassment and discrimination within Ontario schools across several boards.

These complaints should not be viewed as isolated workplace disputes. Taken together, they show a pattern of deficiencies of school boards and unions across Ontario in meeting their legal and human-rights obligations to protect Jewish educators from discrimination and harassment.

The allegations are particularly troubling because they involve teachers themselves—professionals who should be able to go to work without being subjected to antisemitic harassment or discrimination, and who should have confidence that when they report such conduct, their concerns will be taken seriously and addressed.

There is already significant evidence that antisemitism in Ontario’s education system is not an isolated phenomenon. A 2025 study commissioned by the federal Special Envoy on Preserving Holocaust Remembrance and Combatting Antisemitism found that nearly half of reported antisemitic incidents involving Ontario K–12 students were not even investigated by school authorities.

The new human-rights complaints involving educators add another important dimension: the problem extends beyond students and into the working environments of Ontario’s schools. Such concerns have a direct impact on the educational environment for all Ontarians.

A systemic problem requires systemic action.

When individuals report discrimination and harassment and those complaints repeatedly go unanswered, the issue cannot simply be dismissed as the conduct of a few individuals.

It evinces that the systems responsible for receiving, investigating and resolving complaints are themselves failing.

Ontario’s school boards have obligations to provide safe and non-discriminatory environments. The Toronto District School Board, for example, expressly recognizes obligations to proactively identify, address and prevent individual and systemic discrimination.

The Ontario government also has an important role in ensuring that those obligations are being fulfilled consistently across the province. Ontario’s current framework recognizes discriminatory conduct by teachers as potentially constituting professional misconduct, including conduct exposing people to hatred on prohibited grounds.

The Minister of Education must intervene

This is now a matter that requires the direct attention of the Ontario Minister of Education.

The Minister should not wait for the individual human-rights proceedings to work their way through the system before determining whether there is a broader institutional problem. The Minister should not wait for more complaints to come forward.

CAEF has filed previous freedom of information requests to get a clear picture of action by boards to confront antisemitism in all it forms only to be stymied and even ignored

It is key that the root of the problem be addressed including the proliferation at Equity Diversity Inclusion programs that fail to examine and even enable antisemitism, an issue CAEF continues to examine.

We therefore call on the Minister to:

  • Direct an immediate province-wide review of complaints of antisemitism and discrimination made by Jewish teachers and education workers;

  • Determine whether school boards are properly receiving, investigating and responding to complaints of antisemitic harassment and discrimination;

  • Require school boards to demonstrate that they are meeting their obligations under Ontario’s human-rights and education frameworks;

  • Establish clear expectations for timely investigation, documentation and resolution of complaints involving antisemitism and hatred;

  • Ensure that educators who report antisemitism are protected from retaliation or further discrimination; and

  • Develop province-wide standards and training for school administrators and board leadership on recognizing and responding to antisemitism, and in particular antizionism.

Jewish teachers should not have to turn to human-rights tribunals simply to have their complaints heard.

The filing of these complaints should be a wake-up call. When multiple educators across Ontario report similar experiences of antisemitism, harassment and institutional inaction, the government must ask whether it is dealing with individual failures—or a systemic failure.

Ontario’s Minister of Education has both the authority and the responsibility to find out.

There must be accountability. There must be meaningful action. And there must be zero tolerance for antisemitism — including antizionism — in Ontario’s schools.

York U Students and Faculty Union Running Amok—Again

by Andria Spindel

Reading the CUPE 3903 Newsletter makes me want to laugh and cry at the same time. Surely, adults know better than to put out nonsense about "disorientation" week, rather than "orientation" week, thus ensuring some students will experience a nonsense of "liberation," "intersectionality," "collectivism," struggle sessions," and "building solidarity." Whew! Let's not forget these terms align with teachings of leftist losers, Paulo Friere, Frantz Fanon, Herbert Marcuse, Saul Alinsky, Karl Marx, Lenin and Stalin. Did any of them contribute to human development, to human happiness, to student success or to freedom of thought and expression? They designed a system of control, limited diverse thinking and achieved collective action against human norms and nature. So, what exactly is CUPE 3903 achieving for York U students, other than growing discontent, alienation from friends, family and reality.

Read further, the program of the Palestinian Working Group to really lose your mind. While the actual population of Gaza grew since 2023, such that more babies were born than people died in a war they initiated against Israel, the student body is to be subjected to lies about a genocide. Do students really go to university to be taught lies, fabrications and narratives? Would it not suit them better to learn history, geography, and law, how to discern evidence from fiction, how to think critically about the bias an bigotry being offered up by a mob that has extremist antisemitic views?

OPIRG York — DisOrientation Week 2026: No One Gets Free Alone, September 28 - October 2

CAEF notes: Read the program for yourself and laugh (or cry.)

"DisOrienation Week is a series of events offering an alternative to Frosh Week. We aim to foster student activism and help build social justice networks. Join us for a week of collective learning, organizing, and community-building at York University."

"As students, workers, organizers, and community members, we all have something to learn from one another. Building solidarity means recognizing how our struggles intersect, supporting each other across movements, and creating communities rooted in care, accountability, and collective action.

DisOrientation Week 2026 invites participants to imagine and practice what collective liberation looks like on campus and beyond. We welcome events that encourage learning, relationship-building, skill-sharing, organizing, creativity, and hope."

4) CUPE 3903 Palestine Solidarity Working Group — Partnering with Genocide: Panel and Town Hall, October 5, 4 - 6PM, HNES 140

CAEF suggests looking at this poster which promotes lies and lunacy. From the Palestine Solidarity Working Group:

CAEF notes: Israel provides life saving research in many fields and York U students would do well to learn this rather than the nonsense being offered up by the following lies. There is no "occupation," since one cannot be an occupier in one's own land and Israel is in its ancient and forever homeland. It Is spelled out both in law and in the Bible. It is a fact. There has never been a country called Palestine and the people who used that term, were the Jews under the British Mandate from 1922-1948.

The police brutality in the "disputed territories, is entirely coming from the Palestinian Authority's own police, many of whom are also terrorists.

Here is what CuPE 3093 is feeding the young, keeping them in the dark, un-educated or to use their own ludicrous term, "deconstructed," so they can no longer recognize truth, but follow the herd.

"Israeli universities play a key role in upholding occupation and genocide in Palestine: serving as sites of military support programs, developing genocidal policies, supporting research into weapons technologies, partnering with weapons manufacturers, enabling police surveillance of Palestinians, manufacturing claims over Palestinian land, and normalizing Israel's actions through academic partnerships across the world."

"As we launch a report detailing York University's partnerships with Israeli academic institutions, York and GTA student organizers are coming together for a conversation about their campaigns already in progress and to consider possibilities to build from in our own universities. Join us to learn more about York's complicity, connections to other work on campus and to other academic boycott campaigns and find ways to get involved and move this work forward."

CAEF asks: When will York U declare that CUPE 3093 is wasting resources and spearheading hate?

ECI Condemns UN 25 Commemoration of Durban Hatefest

European Coalition for Israel's statement of September 28, 2026 refers to the original UN conference which was a full out display of Jew hatred in 2001. Here is an excerpt:

"Tomas Sandell pointed out how the antisemitic conspiracy theories that were presented in Durban 25 years ago were nothing new but simply recycled Soviet propaganda dating back to the Cold War when Soviet intelligence officers introduced a pseudoscience, today referred to as Zionology, that resulted in the 1975 UN resolution 'Zionism is racism'."

AFSI Reports on Dutch Boycott and Consequences

Americans for a Safe Israel published the following on September 28, 2026:

"Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar gives Dutch diplomats seven days to surrender their Israeli credentials after the Netherlands begins enforcing a boycott that includes travelers' souvenirs. Professor Kontorovich calls the reported airport searches "a real outrage."

Israel is moving to strip Dutch diplomats serving in Ramallah of their Israeli-granted privileges and immunities, as the Netherlands' boycott of products from Jewish communities reaches passengers arriving at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar informed the Dutch Embassy that the diplomats must return their Israeli-issued diplomatic documents within seven days. Their associated privileges and immunities will expire when that deadline passes. The decision follows the implementation of Dutch restrictions on goods from Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, eastern Jerusalem, including the Old City of Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.

Antizionism: A Soviet Pseudoscience (Zionology) Grounded in Antisemitism

Soviet propaganda dating back to the Cold War when Soviet intelligence officers introduced a pseudoscience, today referred to as Zionology, that resulted in the 1975 UN resolution "Zionism is racism". In his new book The Cauldron bestselling British author and historian Simon Sebag Montefiore explains how the Soviets drew inspiration from the 1903 forgery "Protocols of the Elders of Zion", to accuse Israel of genocide, racism, aggressions and annexation.

More than fifty years later these exact same words are being echoed on leading college campuses around the world as well as in the UN General Assembly in New York.

Everyone should know that the Council on American Islamic Relations is a derivative of the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. That's the green part of the axis. The Teachers Unions lean far to the left, and that is the red part of the axis in our schools."

In May 2025, the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) published a report connecting the Middle East Children's Alliance (MECA), which created the "Teach Palestine Project," with the Union of Health Work Committees in Gaza, an organization with financial and personnel ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a U.S.-designated terrorist organization.

The Promised Land Project

On October 7th, 2023, Israel endured a harrowing terrorist attack that claimed innocent lives, including seven Canadians, and shook the world. This assault targeted not just Israel but the core of Western values, challenging principles of humanity, justice, and democratic rights. In its aftermath, rising antisemitism, radical ideologies, and anti-Israel rhetoric have unsettled Jewish communities in Canada and around the world. Recognizing these urgent challenges, the Macdonald-Laurier Institute has launched a pioneering policy program: The Promised Land. This initiative aims to address critical gaps in Canadian understanding of Israel and the Middle East, combat growing antisemitism, and counter extremism to uphold democratic values and foster informed dialogue.

CAEF Launches Commendation Program

Recently CAEF was advised of a young student confronting a teacher in a Jewish school (not in Toronto) about her Palestinian-logoed thermos. The student reported this to his teacher and the school principal. When confronted by the principal, and asked to remove the logo the teacher resigned.

With the name of the student inscribed on the certificate below, CAEF sent this directly to the student, commending him for speaking up and for standing with Israel.

If you know of a student, anywhere, who has similarly stood up for, spoken up, acted in the interest of the Jewish community, please let us know and provide contact information. CAEF will be pleased to send a personal message and the certificate with the student's name.

Standing with Israel in remembrance of the horror of October 7 is the Friends of Zion, a remarkable organization based in Jerusalem which educates Jews and non-Jews about the many exemplary Christian Zionists who contributed to the reconstitution of the State of Israel.

To quote from YNetNews, "Mike Evans, founder of Friends of Zion, created and produced "The Whole World Sings Together," a song and music video featuring voices representing communities from the United States, Israel, China, India, Brazil, the Democratic Republic of Congo, France, Hungary, Iran, Yemen, Germany, Argentina, South Korea, Britain, Italy, Russia and Mexico.

The project seeks to bring together people from different cultures, languages and backgrounds around a central message: The Jewish people are not alone."

CAEF Advocate Award of Excellence Honouring Dr. Brian Crowley — Tuesday, October 27

You are warmly invited to an evening to honour Brian Lee Crowley, a distinguished thought leader whose work has brought a focus on the critical issues of antisemitism, the Middle East, radical Islam and more to the heart of Canada's national conversation.

Brian Crowley founded the Atlantic Institute for Market Studies (AIMS), and the Macdonald Laurier Institute (MLI).

MLI is the premier Canadian public policy think tank, addressing a wide array of national issues and, through the Promised Land Project, the related issues of Middle East conflict, antisemitism and the dangers of radical Islam. Crowley initiated the Promised Land Project on the premise that Canada is a land that has held out the promise of freedom and security to millions around the world and should be held to account for its failure to live up to this promise to its Jewish citizens.

MLI is also the only Canadian think tank with an office in Washington, the Center for North American Prosperity and Security (CNAPS).

Brian Crowley is author of six books, notably Gardeners vs Designers and Fearful Symmetry, and numerous op-eds and research papers. He holds degrees from McGill and the London School of Economics, including a doctorate in political economy.
