Tragedy Upon Tragedy

CAEF acknowledges the injury and pain caused by an errant individual, another radicalized Muslim, who attempted to murder a large number of Jews who were advocates for Israeli hostages at a rally in Boulder, Colorado. The attacker who used a makeshift flame thrower to injure 8 people was arrested and immediately charged with multiple offences. However, this incident, as horrible as it was, coming fast on the heels of a double murder of two Israelis by a terrorist in Washington, D.C. has heightened worry, concern and anger among both US and Canadian Jews, but not aroused a strong response from any level of government in Canada.  Where is the prevention, the protection and the punishment that will deter attacks?

Canadians are learning that a threat assessment by Israel has produced warnings to Jews and Israelis about travel to Canada. The RCMP has assessed the national terrorism threat level to be medium, meaning a violent act of terrorism could occur.

The Abraham Global Peace Initiative provided an insightful article in the National Post and then issued a press release following the attempted murders.

RCMP Collecting Info on Possible War Crimes in the Gaza War

Initial reports suggested that Canada was collecting info to charge IDF soldiers with war crimes. Here is an excerpt from the story as reported by Dylan Robertson for The Canadian Press and carried on CityNews. There are currently no criminal probes, and information is being gathered on all parties related to the armed conflict.

“The RCMP says it initiated “a structural investigation” in ‘early 2024’ of the conflict that started in October 2023, when Hamas militants brazenly attacked Israel and took dozens of hostages, prompting Israel to bombard the Gaza Strip and restrict food deliveries.

‘A structural investigation is a broad, intelligence-led intake process designed to collect, preserve, and assess information potentially relevant under Canada’s Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes Act. This includes gathering open-source material and voluntary submissions from individuals wishing to provide information,’ the statement says.”

Bahadur was charged with promotion of hatred of Jews in a public place in a manner likely to result in a breach of the peace, for statements he made at Nathan Phillips Square at a rally commemorating the 6th month anniversary of the October 7, 2023 atrocities.

On July 15, also at the 10 Armoury Street courthouse, a sentencing hearing for Waisuddin Akbari will be held.  Akbari was found guilty of uttering threats with hate motivation, for threatening to blow up every synagogue in Toronto.

Toronto District School Board Update

At its May 21, 2025 meeting the TDSB Trustees voted to adopt a resolution asking the Ontario Ministry of Education to develop a mandatory course for Trustees and senior staff on "the erasure of Palestinians in school life" and advancing the timeline of addressing "Anti-Palestinian Racism in the anti-racism and anti-hate strategy of the Board…by October 2025".

The Board of Trustees also passed resolutions relating to antisemitism:

"That the Director (a) present an updated report to the Board documenting the increased actions to combat the rise of antisemitism in Toronto District School Board schools for the 2025-2026 school year during the September-October cycle of meetings; (b) That the Director explore having a dedicated full-time TDSB staff member lead the effort to combat antisemitism to ensure that antisemitism is taken seriously and responded to appropriately in TDSB schools, provide resources and training, liaise with partners and help create a more inclusive and equitable environment for Jewish students, staff and the community as a whole

That the Chair of the Board write to the Ministry of Education requesting they develop two, mandatory three-part professional development series for all trustees and senior board leaders on addressing and facilitating conversations on antisemitism in schools, and on the erasure of Palestinians in school life. Both these series must be developed in collaboration with relevant community groups; (b) That the timeline to address Anti-Palestinian Racism in the anti-racism and anti-hate strategy of the Board be moved up, and for the strategy work plan to come to Board for approval by October 2025."

Indigenous Heritage Month

Allied Voices for Israel, in partnership with the Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation (CAEF) and the Indigenous Embassy Jerusalem, will be releasing eight powerful clips throughout the next eight weeks, each featuring a different Indigenous voice speaking to shared values, histories, and solidarity with the Jewish people and Israel.

The first video features Gela Naqica, an Inuk woman from Iqaluit, Nunavut, and a proud member of the First Nations of North America. While sporting an AVI “Proud Ally” shirt, Gela shares a deeply moving reflection on the global Indigenous experience and the meaningful connections between her community and the Jewish people.

Read excerpt from article in Ottawa Life, by Dan Donovan, May 28, 2025

“By condemning Israel without offering a credible alternative to dismantle Hamas, Carney and his counterparts are—intentionally or not—advancing Hamas’s strategic goals: isolate Israel, erase the context of terrorism, and weaponize civilian suffering to delegitimize Israel’s right to self-defense.

This is not moral leadership. It is performative, corrosive, and dangerous. It alienates Jewish communities, empowers antisemitic movements disguised as “anti-Zionism,” and legitimizes hatred under the false banner of humanitarian concern. It feeds a global narrative that increasingly justifies antisemitism as social justice.”

Cultural Differences and Compatibility, an Alliance of Jews and Chinese

Read an excerpt from Times of Israel Blog by Annette Poizner, Research Director, CAEF:

“Jews and Chinese people have more in common than they often realize-diasporic histories, reverence for learning, strong family bonds, and a high cultural value placed on education and achievement. These qualities have contributed to remarkable success in fields like medicine, science, business, and the arts.

But in today’s polarized climate, both groups are increasingly targeted by ideologies that frame merit-based success as systemic privilege. In this view, academic achievement and economic mobility are no longer signs of resilience—they’re symptoms of complicity in oppressive systems.”

Poizner opens the conversation and outlines steps to be taken to build a strong united alliance of two ancient peoples with shared values.
