Rewarding Terror Will Bring More Terror and Antisemitism Globally

“Under the Montevideo Convention of 1933, statehood requires a permanent population, defined territory, a functioning government and the capacity to enter into relations with other states. None of these elements exist in any coherent form today.

The Palestinian Authority barely controls parts of the West Bank, while Hamas, a designated terrorist organization by Canada, the U.K., the European Union and the U.S., controls Gaza with violence and impunity. To call this a “state” is to willfully ignore both law and reality.”

The above quote is from Alan Kessel, Senior Fellow with the Macdonald Laurier Institute, in The Hill, August 11, 2025. Kessel warns that the decision taken by UK, France, Canada and now also Ireland and Australia, will entrench the war, not end it. and sow more instability, while ignoring basic principles, international law, rewarding extremism, and unsaid—endangering Israel and Jews everywhere. He doesn’t skirt the issue of motivation for this brash, irrational move:  Support to a leftist base in UK, likely also true in Canada, and the initiator of this insanity, France, is seeking to present as acting on high moral commitment to peace.

Does anyone see peace with Hamas in the offing? That is not even being considered in the deals proffered by Hamas to Israel, directly or indirectly. When an ideology that is pervasive, grounded in supremacist theology of over a thousand years is being asked to reframe itself, one can hardly expect an overnight acquiescence to rationality, reality or even reasonableness.

When Israel withdrew completely from Gaza in 2005, Gaza had the opportunity to show us what a two-state solution would be. On October 7, 2023, it showed us. I stand with Israel.

Haaretz Enhances Anti-Israel Diatribe

Haaretz is waging a campaign against Israel

The Israeli left-wing newspaper, Haaretz, pushes false stories about Israel, claims there is starvation in Gaza, ignoring all evidence to the contrary.

Read article by Hanan Amiur, August 10, 2025, in JNS, on the use of what they describe as “a so-called ‘famine researcher’ named Alex de  Waal, to bolster the claim.” The article notes the mass amount of anti-Israel propaganda produced by de Waal, long before Oct 7, 2023, so why is Haaretz promoting lies and stirring an antisemitism pot?

Why is Haaretz bringing its hostile anti-Israeli government platform to Toronto?

Legal Update

On August 22, 2025, judgment will be issued at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street,  in the case of Tyrell LIEPERT, a leader of the Communist Workers League charged with two counts of assault following an anti-Israel protest on Avenue Road in downtown Toronto.

On September 3, 2025, Omar ELKHODARY and Razaali BAHADUR will face sentencing judgment at the Ontario Court of Justice, 10 Armoury Street, Toronto.  Elkhodary was found guilty of assaulting a Jewish woman affixing posters about the hostages to a light standard on Yonge Street in North York.  Bahadur was found guilty of making public hateful statements against Jews that were likely to breach the peace, at the April 7, 2024 rally for the hostages at Nathan Phillips Square.  CAEF President Michael Teper delivered a Community Impact Statement in each case.

On September 18, 2025, Kenneth PAULIN will be sentenced for willfully promoting hatred against Jews and willfully promoting antisemitism through Holocaust condonation at the North Bay provincial courthouse.  This is in connection with his “Son of Enos” accounts on X.  CAEF gratefully acknowledges the Friends of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre for their Community Impact Statement.

On September 29, 2025, Luke Alexander MACDONNELL returns to Nova Scotia court for further proceedings as to his degree of criminal responsibility and fitness to stand trial, following a psychiatric examination.  He is charged with advocating genocide against Jews and willfully promoting hatred against Jews.

CAEF this week is also actively monitoring court proceedings in Quebec regarding the assault and uttering threats charges against a Jewish individual.

CAEF welcomes the announcement by BC MLA Dallas Brodie of the private prosecution of Charlotte KATES for allegedly supporting the terrorist organization SAMIDOUN. (Scroll down to see video of Brodie's announcement.)

A Manifesto For Jewish Empowerment In Canada

Adam Hummel, Toronto lawyer shared his “Manifesto for Jewish Empowerment in Canada” in his Substack Catch. It can be viewed across many platforms; it has gone viral.  CAEF listed it as recommended reading last week. Take the time to read this excerpt.

“People are tired of being asked to write letters to the editor; they know the mainstream media is biased against Israel. They don’t want to write op-eds begging to be understood; it seems people are willing to believe anything that smears Israel these days. They don’t want to be encouraged to join panels either, where coffee is sipped while those who despise us smile politely.”

“This is the revenge of dignity. A counterattack of Jewish strength. And the strategy for how we stop being the canary in the coal mine, and start being the architect of the mine itself. Remember: the canary dies. That's not us anymore.”

Each point is elaborated in Hummell’s article.

  1. Build Elite Jewish Education for Everyone

  2. Control the Narrative. Own the Culture.

  3. Weaponize Wealth. Invest with Purpose.

  4. Dominate Politics.

  5. Teach Self-Defence

  6. Expose Hypocrisy. Shame Cowardice.

  7. Build Strategic Alliances with Real Friends.

  8. Create Private Spaces for Power.

  9. Protests not Rallies.

  10. Embrace Jewish Power Without Apology.

MAGA: Make Antisemitism Grotesque Again.

What Do Palestinians Want?

Prime Minister Netanyahu responded forcefully and clearly to the question at a recent press event.

They (Palestinian Arabs) were offered statehood by my predecessors with lavish, lavish concessions. They turned it down. Because the Palestinians are not about creating a state; they're about destroying a state. That's why they opposed the Jewish national movement to create a state. It’s called Zionism. They opposed it before the inception of the Jewish state, and they've opposed it since. They've opposed it when they had Judea and Samaria, the West Bank and Gaza in their whole.”

Free Speech Must Include Responsible Speech

While hate speech is difficult to nail down, assuming all speech should be tolerated is an intolerable idea. The notion that only incitement or calls for violence is the line, ignores the history of how words lead to actions. Calling people “vermin” or “apes” or demeaning a people, such as labelling Jews as “Christ killers”, have all led to physical attacks against Jews. The Holocaust and all pogroms began with words. The genocide against the Tutsis began with horrible word attacks, publicly broadcast. Today’s attacks against many minorities is supported by hate speech, often it is reprehensible language from some faith leaders and teachers, though the words may not specifically call for murder. The result can be.

Private Prosecution of Samidoun Leader

Dallas Brodie, MLA and leader of OneBC, filed a private prosecution in BC Provincial Court against Charlotte Kates, the international coordinator of Samidoun. Designated a terrorist entity since October 15, 2024, Samidoun continues to spread hate, with Kates praising Hamas’s October 7 attacks as “heroic.” Despite police recommendations for charges, the BC Prosecution Service has not acted, forcing Brodie to step in with this unprecedented legal move. With the private prosecution now filed, a judge will determine whether sufficient evidence exists to proceed, at which point the Crown may choose to take over or stay the case. Regardless, this campaign sends a crystal-clear message: Canadians will not remain silent as extremists radicalize in our midst.

Hold Government accountable to follow up on these promises:

The Government of Canada committed to the following:

  1. Working collaboratively with provinces and territories and other partners to develop comprehensive National Action Commitments to combat antisemitism. This work will involve representatives of each level of government and include not only elected representatives, but also public officials from relevant departments.

  2. Up to $10 million in immediate new funding to support grassroots organizations and work done on the ground to help address all forms of hate, including antisemitism. This funding, delivered through the Community Resilience Fund (CRF), will promote greater collaboration across sectors to identify and address warning signs at earlier stages, and building capacity of frontline staff in various sectors, including municipal government services, to better address hate and violent extremism.

  3. Investing $26.8 million over four years to support police colleges to provide training on all hate crimes to provincial and municipal police forces and exploring ways to accelerate implementation of this work.

  4. Greater transparency in tracking the progress of our collective efforts in addressing the public safety threat of antisemitism. Advancing this shared responsibility by having ongoing engagements with various partners through existing fora (e.g., Federal, provincial and territorial senior level working groups) and releasing a public report on progress on a semi-annual basis.

  5. Working with Statistics Canada to better recognize and report on the existence of hate crimes, to improve data consistency and awareness in order to help everyone to better understand the extent of hate crimes in Canada, including acts of antisemitism. This involves training for police to ensure that antisemitism and acts of hatred are identified. The training, which includes an examination of antisemitism specifically, is available to all police services across Canada. The Government of Canada is committing to further this training and to further evaluating and refining data standards and training material to ensure it is meeting the intended purpose.

  6. Recognizing the Jewish community’s dedication to building and maintaining its own security networks, the Government of Canada is committing to working in partnership with these community-led efforts to build and maintain their own security networks to enhance security and improve the safety of all members of the community.

  7. In consultation with provinces and territories, examining potential amendments to the Criminal Code to strengthen tools for law enforcement and prosecutors to address hate crimes, including those motivated by antisemitism, in the following major areas:

    • access to religious and cultural buildings;

    • extreme forms of hate speech;

    • display of terror symbols; and

    • Impediments to the investigation and prosecution of hate crimes.

  8. Working with provinces and territories to share promising practices in provincial/territorial legislation and other approaches that address hate-related conduct, including conduct motivated by antisemitism.

  9. Working with provinces and territories to identify ways to improve the criminal justice system responses to hate crimes, including those motivated by antisemitism. This could include training as well as developing resources to support successful investigations and prosecutions.

  10. Delivering $1.4 million in new funding for 7 new initiatives through the National Holocaust Remembrance Program. These projects will not only promote Holocaust education and awareness, but will also play a key role in actively combatting antisemitism across Canada.

  11. Ensuring that transfer payments are designed, delivered and managed with integrity, accountability and transparency, and that recipients of government funding respect the values underlying the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

  12. Working with partners across all orders of government to increase awareness of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition and all elements contained within the Canadian Handbook on the IHRA Working Definition of Antisemitism.

Where No Jews Live, Antisemitism is High

Impact-se, an NGO that studies bias in texts and teacher training has conducted a significant review of Pakistani textbooks used in the national curriculum, and the findings are very disturbing. IMPACT-se’s assessment analyzes textbooks from three educational boards across the country: Punjab, Sindh and the Federal Directorate. This report analyzes 86 government-approved textbooks across a range of subjects, including English, Urdu, Islamic Education, Social Studies, History, Geography, Mathematics, Science, Home Economics, and Ethics.

Here are comments introducing the 128 page report.

“Pakistani textbooks include particular and recurring hostility toward Jews, who are often collectively accused of treachery and disloyalty, and are primarily perceived as the enemies of Islam. Israel is framed as a hostile enemy of the Muslim world and the sole aggressor in the current war in Gaza. There is no mention of the Holocaust, with a textbook even praising Hitler for restoring German pride, omitting any mention of the horrors of Nazism.

Jewish families are asking how to talk about October 7th - "Everything Will Be Okay!" is one gentle way in. Sisters Evelyn Fichmann and Vivian Blankfeld have published a children’s book to address the need for answering, what happened?

The authors wrote:

“When my sister and I decided to write and illustrate this book, we knew how challenging it can be to talk about such a dark topic with a young audience, so Professor Mooli Lahad, Israel's leading expert on childhood trauma, guided us throughout the process.

The book is about friendship, hope, and emphasizes the strength and solidarity of community. Above all, a community that will always celebrate life.”

Part of the proceeds will go to families in the kibbutzim most affected by October 7th.

Advocacy and Action

Message from Ron East, editor of TheJ.ca suggesting that anti-Israel, anti-Netanyahu protests are inappropriate for the diaspora. Stand with Israel.

“To all the diaspora Jews loudly proclaiming, ‘Netanyahu doesn’t represent me’: You’re absolutely right, he doesn’t. And he’s not supposed to.

Netanyahu is the elected leader of the State of Israel, and his responsibility is to represent the citizens of Israel, not the global Jewish community. He wasn’t elected by American, Canadian, British, or Australian Jews, he was elected by Israelis who live with the daily realities of terror, war, and complex regional dynamics.

You may not agree with his policies, and that’s your right. But dismissing him as illegitimate or ‘not your Prime Minister’ misses the point. He leads Likud, the party that consistently tops the polls in Israel, despite, or perhaps because of, your disapproval. Israelis vote based on their lived experience, not the comfort of academic or activist theories from afar.

Engage, debate, disagree, that’s democracy. But don’t confuse your personal politics with Israeli sovereignty. If you want to influence Israeli policy, make aliyah and vote. Otherwise, recognize that Israel is a democracy, and the people who live there get to decide who represents them.”
