From Rhetoric to Real-World Violence: ‘Globalize the Intifada’

A dangerous worldwide trend is becoming more virulent: the escalating normalization of rhetoric that directly incites violence against Jews, Zionists and Israelis. In NYC, mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani repeatedly refused to condemn the chilling slogan “Globalize the Intifada.” During the Second Intifada – launched by Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat in 2000 – Palestinian terrorists attacked Israeli busses, restaurants and other targets – killing more than 1,000 Israelis.

When NYC voters were asked: “Mamdani backs the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement against Israel and also refuses to condemn the phrase ‘Globalize the Intifada,’ which some interpret as a call to violence against Jews. Does knowing this make you more or less likely to vote for Mamdani?” While a slight majority responded that they were less likely to vote for him – 31% were more likely to support Mamdani. This number rises to 46% among 18- to 44-year-olds.

Legal update

Last week, the Ontario Court of Justice heard sentencing arguments and Community Impact Statements in R v. Bahadur.  Razaali Bahadur was previously found guilty of incitement to hatred contrary to Section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, as well as Breach of Probation.  The guilty verdicts relate to hateful statements made by Bahadur at the April 7, 2024 rally for the hostages at Nathan Phillips Square.

Community Impact Statements were delivered by CAEF President Michael Teper and Vice President Avi Attali.

Other Community Impact Statements were presented by Mathew Taub, and by B’nai Brith and Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre staff members. We are grateful to our sister organizations for their diligence in pursuing this case.

The Crown Attorney requested 15 months of custodial jail, plus 3 years probation including weapons prohibitions and restrictions on participation in demonstrations.  Bahadur’s attorney requested home detention and was agreeable to the probation period.

The sentence will be delivered September 3.  Details to follow.

The Ontario College of Teachers issued its reasons for revoking the license of Fernanda Caranfa, for hateful statements made against Jews on her Twitter account.  The full decision is here.  This is the first time in the College’s history that it has issued a decision under the new provision of the professional misconduct regulation dealing with exposing members of an identifiable group to hatred.

Caranfa’s statements included accusing Jews of sacrificing Jews to the demon Moloch, and Holocaust denial.

Organizations to Support that Make a Difference

CAEF is introducing several NGOs that are making a huge difference in the war against Jew hatred, the support for Israel and Israelis suffering since October 7, 2023. There are many great organizations but we chose these 3 as YOU can take action, as well as donate, to make a difference.

Hug for Hope is a grassroots volunteer initiative out of Israel, connecting Israeli evacuees with families in Canada or the U.S. who host them in their homes for a period of 10 days.  Consider hosting, bringing relief, relaxation, friendship and a ray of sunshine to an Israeli family that has suffered and endured the almost two-year war against terrorism.

Clarity Coalition is a global coalition founded by Muslims, ex-Muslims, academics, scholars, authors, and activists who stand for peace, democracy, liberty, and secular governance and who are deeply concerned by the continuing threat posed to these values by the actions and demands of Islamists in various places around the world. Join Clarity Coalition, promote human rights and defend Canadian values.

Honest Reporting Canada is an independent grass-roots organization promoting fairness and accuracy in Canadian media coverage of Israel, the Middle East and matters affecting Canada’s Jewish community, and which works to challenge anti-Jewish rhetoric, particularly when antisemitism hides behind a mask of anti-Israel criticism. With the assistance of our over 70,000 members from coast to coast, HRC monitors the media, recognizes excellence and exposes inaccuracy and bias in Canadian reporting on the region.

Sign up for daily Honest Reporting alerts and push back against Jew hatred, Antisemitism, and Anti Zionism with a real genocidal intent to eradicate Israel.

You will receive alerts that ask for your immediate action to call out the CBC, CTV, Global News, City News, The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, Radio Canada & newspapers (Montreal/Quebec) and other media across Canada. One of the worst offenders that is often not held to account is "The Breach" online magazine.

As well, it is important that the Jewish community and allies organizations reach out to independent media and podcasters willing to support the pushback on Mainstream media.  Here is a short list of sources that continue to call out the lies on mainstream media:  David (Moose on the Loose), Candace Malcolm (Juno News),  Ezra Levant (Rebel News), Josh (Elev8 podcast), Jasmin Laine (Over Opinionated), Ryan & Tanya (Northern Perspective), Mario Zelaya (Mario Up North). Sign up and support these independent voices.

Union Spreads Vicious Lies

The Ontario Federation of Labour joins with other anti-Israel unions in spreading lies about Irael in  Gaza. THERE IS NO GENOCIDE. The Union should look up the definition of “genocide” and note the population of Gaza has not been decimated, there has been no intent to eradicate Gazans, the IDF take enormous precautions at their own risk to protect civilians, the Hamas terrorists mingle with civilains and they distort all data, never mentioning the death of combatant terrorists, nor those people who die of natural causes.

THERE IS NO STARVATION IN GAZA, short of what Hamas has created by stealing food and other humanitarian aid, selling it on the black market, and at times shooting Gazans who try to access food. Hence the Israelis and Americans are doing their utmost to distribute food in Gaza, without the interference of Hamas, and with little support from the UN.

The Crisis in Jewish Education: Rising to the Challenge

An Evening with Drs. Ruth Wisse & Jonathan Silver

Thursday, September 4 at 7 PM ET

Toronto, Ontario (We will share the venue with registrants one week ahead of the event.)

Registration Required – click here to register

The Jewish way of life must be perpetuated through an education that starts at a young age and continues throughout a lifetime.  For millennia, Jews have ceaselessly transmitted and reinforced the teachings of our sacred tradition. Yet today—as the “war against the Jews” reaches a fever pitch—many young people have abandoned, or even repudiated, their Jewish identity.

With the beginning of the new school year, Tikvah—one of the leading Jewish educational organizations and think tanks in North America— cordially invites you to join its senior fellows Professor Ruth Wisse and Dr. Jonathan Silver for a thought-provoking discussion on how to produce confident and morally courageous Jews in our turbulent times.
